Yeah no catch. Stop it lol You have to maintain control as your going to the ground as well.
Here are your rules from the rulebook:
RULE 8 FORWARD PASS, BACKWARD PASS, FUMBLE
SECTION 1 FORWARD PASS
ARTICLE 3. COMPLETED OR INTERCEPTED PASS. A player who makes a catch may advance the ball. A forward pass is
complete (by the offense) or intercepted (by the defense) in the field of play, at the sideline, or in the end zone if a player, who is
inbounds:
(a) secures control of the ball with his hand(s) or arm(s) prior to the ball touching the ground; and
(b) touches the ground inbounds with both feet or with any part of his body other than his hands; and
(c) after (a) and (b) have been fulfilled, then clearly performs any act common to the game (e.g., extend the ball forward, take an
additional step, tuck the ball away and turn upfield, or avoid or ward off an opponent), or he maintains control of the ball long
enough to do so.
Notes:
(1) Movement of the ball does not automatically result in loss of control.
(2) Player does not “survive the ground”: If a player who has satisfied (a) and then (b), but has not then performed part (c)
(an act common to the game), contacts the ground and loses control of the ball, there is no possession if the ball hits the
ground before he regains control, or if out of bounds, he regains control.
There's the main catch rule and then there are the 6 exception cases where those rules apply. I assume you're going to Exception #2, which is still part of the rules but is now not an either/or (you're either "upright" or "going to the ground"like it used to be). But you tell me how Olave did not have clear possession, get 2 feet down, and then did something like "an additional step" as outlined in the rules. Because this going to the ground version of the rules now ONLY applies where you did not perform part (c) of the main catch rule, which you can now perform either upright or
while going to the ground.
