  1. Tight end could be treated like the most popular holiday season gift during the 2017 draft. There's plenty of appealing, drool-worthy talent for tight end-needy teams to gobble up early, with possibly four prospects at the position set to be snatched in the opening two rounds.

What if, however, you're a general manager who needs to bolster his roster at tight end but you also have greater needs in the first few rounds? That general manager should know Adam Shaheen.

There are whispers that if the Ashland University standout impresses at the scouting combine, he could vault all the way into the first round, alongside the likes of Alabama's O.J. Howard.

"He's clearly the third-best tight end in this year's class, and I think you'll start to hear first-round buzz about him by the time his workout is finished," a team executive told NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah. "It's hard to find tight ends with his combination of size, speed and toughness. He's a unique talent."

Slotting a small-school prospect into the first round is high praise. And the anonymous executive wasn't off in his assessment, as Shaheen is indeed a massive human.

He's 6'6" and 277 pounds, so it's easy to assume Shaheen is more of a bounding target who specializes in winning jump balls. But Shaheen can also separate, and the Ohio native's most impressive skill—which is simply not normal for someone his size—is how smoothly he breaks away from defenders in the open field for yards after the catch.

Shaheen led Division II tight ends in receptions (57), yards (867) and touchdowns (16) in 2016, and watching the highlights is a great way to spend three minutes of your time. That trademark breakaway speed is on full display at the 57-second mark.

Would you flip out if this was the pick at 28?

Guy cant block. Escobar all over again. Doesnt matter how good he can catch if he cant block hes not getting on the field. We have seen this with Bennett and Escobar. I think Gavin is going to NE and become a pro bowler this yr.

That would expose what Jason Garrett really is

Contrary to what some believe, this team needs another TE. I can see a 3rd or 4th being used on one. If Butt is on the board at #2 I take him. First round talent.

If Swaim and Hanna are healthy, I can't see drafting a TE this year unless very late with the intentions of stashing him on the PS.

Witten, Swaim, Hanna and Rico. No way they are carrying 5. Now, if Hanna is done, that's different

We need a long term solution at TE, this year might Witten's swan song. Swaim and Hanna aren't that and Rico is still a long shot. Passing up on a talented TE with starter potential because we have Swaim and Hanna is pretty ridiculous

I really like Shaheen a bunch but not in round 1 and not even round 2. He'd have to have an all-time great Combine for me to overvalue TE like that.

Looks very quick for a such a big guy,i imagine he is going to nail the Combine.I am afraid both our scouts and Coaches are very enamored with TEs.If we bring in this guy for a visit then i fear its on.

I thought he looked impressive but he better learn to hold that ball tighter when running or he will be a fumble machine.

I think such a small school guy will rise that high in a deep TE class and overall solid draft. Deep day 2 player to me

There seems to be a lot of doubt about Hanna ever being healthy again. Plus you're also needing to find the replacement for Witten, and outside of maybe Gathers we just don't have a replacement on the team.

We're now looking for a starter. Does it matter if Hanna can stay healthy? He's a roster filler. Unless Rico can beat the odds the Cowboys will need to find that player. He's not on the roster.

Phazahn Odom of Fordham and Anthony Auclair of Laval as UDFAs.
