Just looked at Mare's stats... and I sure hope he becomes available...

I know he used to be one of the NFL's elite.. then fell in a slump the past couple years, and then bounced back with a solid year last season..

but the one thing that impressed me the most when looking at his stats was his kickoff average... He averaged 67 last year.. WOW

It's 65 from the 35 yard line to the endzone... so his AVERAGE kickoff was 2 yards deep into the endzone..

And that's the reason he edges out the others, IMO.

He's still a very good kicker even when you don't factor in his kickoff ability.

someone posted on another board, it was 4 years at 8.8 million contract.

Depending on what the signing bonus is, that sounds fairly reasonable.

NFL kicks off from the 30. That's college.

With Seattle not matching Hutchinson's contract, I would think Josh Brown is pretty much off the radar.

whoops, brainfart

But still, Mare had the 2nd highest kickoff average only behind Neil Rackers... impressive stuff

How old is Mare? For some reason I thought he was like 35 or 36. That's not too old for a kicker but I'm just curious.

He's about in his prime for a kicker. Maybe not even there yet.

He's 32. Kickers can kick in the NFL till their in the 40s (sometimes).

I think Mare getting cut is predicated on them getting Vanderjagt. Of course, we're still competing with New England and Green Bay for any kickers out there. So, even if Mare is cut, we'll have competition.

Yep.

If Miami cuts Mare it'll only be if they get Vanderjagt. Now that Seattle didn't match the Vikings for Hutchinson, I think they will match any potential offer for Brown.

So it's basically Vanderjagt or Mare. But if Miami gets Vanderjagt then it's down to Mare and we'll be competing with NE and GB.

The one thing we do have in our favor is that I hear Mare's agent is Rosenhaus and after the TO deal, we may have an inside with him.

Josh Brown is really the only option for us worth getting now. We are forced to go that route...and it better be an offer Seattle won't match! :bang2:
Last I checked is that Seattle -still- has over $19m in cap space even after signing Peterson.

How can the Colts, with all their high priced players afford Viniteri and his $3 million (I'm guessing ?) a year?

Probably the same way that the Commanders can be in "cap trouble" but still sign Randle El, Carter, Archuleta, and Lloyd to ridiculously ludicrous contracts.

I doubt we get Brown, I believe that Seattle still has quite a bit of $$$ and if we wouldn't spend money of the best kicker in the game in Vinatieri then I doubt we make a big enough offer to get Seattle not to match Brown
