We have 2 first rd picks and assuming we use both of them our cap hit for rookies will be much higher this coming year. Could be as high as $5 million total. Especially likely if the browns do us a favor and give us a top 5 pick.
Then Romo's deal. Probably looking at 7 million or so. That gets us up to 100 million right there. And if JJ goes after any high priced FA's then we will NOT have as much cap space next year. One of the reasons we NEED to get Romo's deal done soon.

I think that will mean that Portis will be gone from Washington next year. Portis has even hinted as much.

I don't know about y'all... but if we don't get McFadden, I think CP would look pretty nice platooning with MBIII in our backfield!

He's too fragile, physically and mentally.

I wouldn't get too excited about Wash being over -- I'd imagine they have a few contracts that balloon in 2008 that make those numbers so high -- won't be hard for them to get under and still be able to sign a few big name FAs.

Exactly. We've seen this long enough to know they'll be well under the cap when FA starts.

Just imagine him in the Julius role... it'd be a thing of beauty.

I think he'd hold up if you limited him to 15 carries a game.

I'm not sure what you're referring to mentally. He's a little crazy but I think he's tough on the football field.

A slasher, who is ACTUALLY a slasher?

I'd take it.

I think his shoulders might be finished, though. He is almost definitely not going to be in DC next year - welcome to the Ladell "Glass" Betts show.

Portis sucks. As he has done since leaving Denver.

An overpaid, self-indulgent headcase that is a system back is not anything I would touch with a 10 foot pole.

I love how Jerry/Stephen have managed the cap the last few years and kept us out of trouble. We have the ability to sign anyone we want but have avoided the temptation to sign the biggest available name simply because he was available.

I thought we made a huge mistake in signing Terrell Owens but I have to say that he is playing very well this season and has gone a long ways towards changing his attitude. Signing Leonard Davis was a great move even though I was hoping for a couple of other guys for RG. Davis has proven to be an excellent pickup for us and is playing very differently than he did with the Cardinals.

I am glad we didn't take the bait and trade for Larry Johnson (I never wanted him but many here did) as the combo of Jones & Barber has proven to be extremely effective. I'll pass on Portis.

Our management has gotten smarter and is drafting better now. Although we still have the occasional head-scratcher, it isn't an entire draft of them. Jerry has been patient in going after FAs and waiting til the suckers have paid the big bucks for the overhyped players before going after the solid guys. They haven't all paid off but we haven't gotten ourselves in trouble with any of them either. Marco Rivera was the only one who hurt us at all but no one could have foreseen his back injury.

Columbo, Davis, Henry, Hamlin, Ferguson, Owens, Terry Glenn, Kosier, & Akin Ayodele have all played well for us since we brought them in and none of them broke the bank.

We are in good position for next season to fill whatever holes we may have with 2 1st round picks and plenty of room under the cap for FAs. If for some reason we don't with the SB this year, we will next season.

I think our cap situation will be even better in the next year or so when we clear F. Adams' salary. I don't think he will be here much longer, and that will be a big salary off the top.

Romo, on the other hand, he will cost us big. And I couldn't be happier. I love having a QB that demands a top salary.

I love it even better having one who DESERVES a top salary and Romo certainly does. Jerry will pay him and everyone will be happy.

Yeah, I probably should have said "deserves" instead of "demand." "Demand" is grammatically fine, as I used it in the sense that this ability demands that someone pay him high, but these days, we have so many players who verbally demand top salaries even though their performance doesn't warrant it. So "deserves" was probably a better word choice.

I keep hearing calls for Jerry to sign Romo asap. I can understand why he was waiting. Jerry got a lot of answers after the Bears game cause he could see how well Romo played against a top defensive team. I think his last concern is whether Romo's performance might tail off a little as the season moves into high gear in late Oct/Nov. Wouldn't be surprised if Romo's signed during bye week or, for a big splash, just before the Eagles game so he can be interviewed during half time so he can discuss it with the talking heads.

Are you KIDDING?? He hasn't played against a top defense. The Bears were riddled with injuries and Grossman's play caused them to wear down.

the bye week sounds like a jerry move. jerry is very smart when it comes to marketing and that gets the cowboys a ton of coverage in the bye week.i know it will get done and thats the main thing

They were riddled with injuries AFTER we started playing them, not our fault that they got injured, is it? The bears defense is used to being wore down by grossman's inability to be a quarterback, hes done it practically the past 2 seasons...
