I love how Jerry/Stephen have managed the cap the last few years and kept us out of trouble. We have the ability to sign anyone we want but have avoided the temptation to sign the biggest available name simply because he was available.
I thought we made a huge mistake in signing Terrell Owens but I have to say that he is playing very well this season and has gone a long ways towards changing his attitude. Signing Leonard Davis was a great move even though I was hoping for a couple of other guys for RG. Davis has proven to be an excellent pickup for us and is playing very differently than he did with the Cardinals.
I am glad we didn't take the bait and trade for Larry Johnson (I never wanted him but many here did) as the combo of Jones & Barber has proven to be extremely effective. I'll pass on Portis.
Our management has gotten smarter and is drafting better now. Although we still have the occasional head-scratcher, it isn't an entire draft of them. Jerry has been patient in going after FAs and waiting til the suckers have paid the big bucks for the overhyped players before going after the solid guys. They haven't all paid off but we haven't gotten ourselves in trouble with any of them either. Marco Rivera was the only one who hurt us at all but no one could have foreseen his back injury.
Columbo, Davis, Henry, Hamlin, Ferguson, Owens, Terry Glenn, Kosier, & Akin Ayodele have all played well for us since we brought them in and none of them broke the bank.
We are in good position for next season to fill whatever holes we may have with 2 1st round picks and plenty of room under the cap for FAs. If for some reason we don't with the SB this year, we will next season.
