Report: Adrian Peterson would consider deal restructure, Cowboys
Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson would consider restructuring his contract to help facilitate a trade to the Dallas Cowboys, amongst other teams.
According to Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports, Peterson is pondering the possibility:
"While Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson continues to have an open dialogue with the franchise about his future, he has pondered potential trade destinations and would consider a contract restructure if a deal becomes necessary, sources have told Yahoo Sports."
Continuing on, via Yahoo Sports:
"Another source inside Peterson's circle told Yahoo Sports the running back has entertained returning to the Vikings, but has also considered potential trade destinations. Under the latter scenario, Peterson would also consider restructuring his contract to make a trade work."
This is the exact scenario that Cowboys owner/GM Jerry Jones wants in regards to acquiring Peterson. Back in January, NFL insider Jason Cole reported that the Cowboys had interest in Peterson at a reduced rate.
"The thinking is that Adrian Peterson could be a target for the Cowboys this offseason. Despite that his high price tag, there's a feeling that he may be willing to take a little less money to come to Texas, where he was born and raised, and play for the Cowboys."
According to the original Yahoo Sports article, Peterson prefers five trade destinations with Dallas as the favorite: Arizona Cardinals, the Indianapolis Colts, the Cowboys, the San Diego Chargers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Cowboys are currently heading into free agency without a starting running back. DeMarco Murray is set to to test the open market on March 10, but the Cowboys are ready to give him a "respectable" offer.
However, the Cowboys only have so much they are willing to spend in free agency, as COO Stephen Jones so eloquently describes it, via Twitter:
