After 2 or 4 games, does Morris get cut?

After Demontre Moore and Irving return from suspension, do we cut Morris now that Zeke is likely to play the full season? We really could use more depth elsewhere. Of course, it would be great if the coaching staff was comfortable enough with Rush by that point to cut Kellen...

Given the construction of the current roster, I think Morris has a bit of security, despite the current decision on Zeke.

Benwikere looks like strictly a bandaid until the young corners are ready to go. Barring injury, I think he's the first cut.

And Jayrone Elliott is another guy who's should rent, not buy.

Both of these players were acquired with conditional draft picks. That gives the Cowboys incentive to release them before those conditions are met. If you keep them, you're giving up those picks. If not, you get a 'free rental', costing no draft compensation.

Beyond that, they always have Moore's spot to bounce him on and off the roster and practice squad. They can't chase him away.

Injuries could always force their hand, but I think Morris shield be safe, especially after week one when his salary is guaranteed.

Look at who is active on game day the next couple of weeks. Morris rode the bench as an inactive to close out last season when McFadden came back. They like McFadden for some reason.

Of all of our other backs this preseason Morris ran the best. I would keep him. Go Cowboys

I would hope not. Morris is the 2nd best RB on this team.
Sort of but he's not the second best all around back on the team. I love Morris he's. Class act
But hoping somebody trades for him. I predicted C Thornton and Morris for different reasons Cowboy days are numbered

I think given the health of the rookie DBs, Bene Benwikere shouldn't get comfortable. After that, injuries will likely dictate who gets released for Irving
Yes, Benwikere seems like he is just insurance until everyone is healthy. It sounds like they want Lewis to be active this week which would mean Benwikere is inactive.

Did he play vs 1st string defenses, or 2nd/3rd string defenses ala Rush (who some here discredit because of).

the guy is basically a straight-line runner...IMO, he should be on the roster, but I don't see him ahead of DMac...the real question in this scenario is do we need Mr R.Smith?

Someone has to play special teams, and Rod is very good at that. Plus, in preseason he showed to be a tough competent runner.

AMorris can't hold a candle to DMC in the passing game.... that is why the Commanders let him go

Plus he doesn't play STs.......he is a redundancy

I would cut him before Week 1 and save his guaranteed salary since he will sit anyways

Maybe another team will need a RB by then and actually offer a late round pick for him....he's better than most of the RB's currently available.

NO WAY. He is a keeper. He played really well in the preseason and is an outstanding veteran influence. Get rid of Nolan.

Doubtful, but he is likely inactive as long as Zeke is playing.

His salary will be guaranted and they want to be prepared if Zeke misses games due to suspension.

If McFadden wasn't from Arkansas and had a first round pedigree he wouldn't start over Morris

In nearly 3 decades, how may Arkansas players have the Cowboys actually drafted or acquired? Sorry, but this popular sentiment is horse manure, and if anything has possibly hurt the team. I've often wondered if the front office has shied away from Arkansas players in the draft, especially after Felix Jones, partly because of this misperception.
I can name three very good recent Arkansas players I wanted in a Cowboy uniform that are all pretty dang good at their positions: TE Hunter Henry (SD) DE Trey Flowers and DE Deadrich Wise Jr.(both NE).

I would trade AMorris for a Dion Lewis-NE, Danny Woodhead-BAL type every day

Until we draft our Kareem Hunt in 3rd round next year, this backfield will remain.
Zekes current situation buys this team "time", and that element is as beneficial as Zeke playing this entire season.

I saw a spark in Morris this offseason,, I'm willing to roll with him and at least give him an opportunity in real play, before dismissing him.

He showed it last year too and then averaged 3.5 ypc

Zeke, DMC and RSmith can all do what he does

Hope not...I think McFadden sucks and is too old. Why are we messing around keeping a 30 year old RB as a backup. If RBs are a dime a dozen then always gimme the younger/fresher legs over the old guy with a history of injuries

Not saying the future doesn't hold room for improvement in this backfield, I'm buying that stock.
I just don't see any relevant 1 for 1 trade,, ever taking place.
You have to improve your stock in the draft esp at the RB position. They age fast, and its just not good to trade one old RB for another old RB,, same holds true to most positions and its just not relevant.
