From NFL.com (league ranking based on yards allowed)

Rush Defense....................................18th

Pass Defense....................................29th

Total Defense....................................26th

Only Arizona, Jacksonville, and Tennesse are worst against the pass then we are. Our secondary is pure garbage, I bet Drew Brees is having wet dreams thinking about our upcoming game down in the SuperDome. The Saints are going to drop 50+ on our arse!!!

It's going to take us a while to get out of the hole we dug during the first two games (438.5 ypg). But the average is coming down each week (304.0 ypg in the past two games).

We're also up to 12th in scoring defense (17.75 ppg).

Right now, I don't see the D as the problem. Despite the bad tackling and suspect secondary, they make enough plays to keep teams out the endzone. What they cannot do, and shouldn't be expected to, is to keep teams in single digits every week.

I love Overreaction Monday.

The numbers are what they are, no overreaction at all. I wish they were different but they arent.

Will the numbers get better as we get further along in the season??? I hope so, but we will have to wait and see.

Right now, we are 26th in total defense..............it is what it is.

Wasn't talking about the numbers being an overreaction as you're absolutely right - its not like they're an opinion ;) We're getting better than weeks 1 and 2, which is good.

We still aren't getting to the QB which hurts any secondary.

Why the hell did Jerry rehire Campo? Our secondary is the worst I have ever seen it. Always out of position, rarely get picks, give up huge chunks of real estate on a regular basis, almost always playing too far off the ball, and can't stop deep passes with any consistency. Campo was a lousy coach that produced the worst coaching stint by far in team history. Jerry rehires him, and the suckfest in the secondary thus begins.

The Cowboys sure as hell got to the QB last year, and yet the secondary was puke inducing aweful just like this year. Despite a league leading pass rush, the secondary could only manage 8 picks, and was torched for an NFL lead in giving up 10+ yard plays on 3rd & 10+. The secondary just flat out sucks, and is coached by an idiot.

As Adam said, the numbers are slowly getting better. 17.75 is not bad considering how many of those points have come from our offense turning over the ball.

I think it's because teams have "figured out Wade's system", "this ain't 1992", etc.

Did they figure it out last year?

Like Parcells, Wade's defense time has past.

Look back, while he has produced some good games, overall his defense has been inconsistent. They do not dominate consistently like say the Ravens or the Steelers.

The reason for that is it is based completely on pressure. Either you sack the QB or you give up big plays.

It's not all about sacking the QB. I think Charles Haley taught us that. You just must pressure the QB. The idea is to dominate the line of scrimmage.

The Cowboys are giving teams 5+ seconds before the QB sees real pressure. They are not dominating the line of scrimmage.

Look at the Ravens, Giants, Steelers, Patriots. What is one of the main things they do? Overload. Why? Because only so many pass protectors appear on one side of the defense. The offense has no choice but to get rid of the ball quickly because an offense cannot dominate the line of scrimmage if it is overloaded.

Running a basic defensive package (what the Cowboys have resorted too) will not overload and hence, they cough up 5+ seconds of time for a QB to get rid of the ball.

Guys (and ladies) get ready for a year of emotional pain. This year is going to suck something fierce.
