After one game is Austin ahead of Hurd?

So after all the offseason hype surrounding Miles Austin and how he was going to push Crayton for the number 2 spot, is it Sam Hurd who is in control of the number three spot pushing Austin clear back to number 4???

Hurd clearly outplayed Austin, as Austin had an opportunity, but dropped the pass. I was originally higher on Hurd than Austin, but after Hurd got hurt last year and Austin had the big game in Green Bay I questioned that.

Not anymore. IMO Hurd is the better receiver whether he is slower or not. He clearly outplayed Austin tonight, and in 07 was a very solid number three for us.

Austin has never showed good hands nor route running, and his hands let him down yet again tonight. He may have the speed that we desperately need at WR, but it doesnt take away from the fact that a WR has one main job to do - catch the ball.

Hurd is doing a better job of that, and a better job playing the wide receiver position regardless of speed.

Hurd will never stretch Ds like Austin can

but he knows how to get open, and like you said, he catches everything thrown to him

Hurd is one of the hardest workers on this team and has given it his all to produce every chance he's been given. I don't see why it's such a surprise for people that he played outstanding tonight.

I had high hopes for Austin this year being the #3 and playing the "Alvin Harper" mold of the big play WR.

I'm still pulling for him to be a big play guy when we roll out our WR packages, but I feel this team is better with Sam Hurd in the game than Miles Austin.

No, if you read my post I said I was originally higher on Hurd than Austin.

As in, their entire career here in Dallas besides last year when Hurd was hurt and we didnt see him.

Right now,one would have to see Hurd as#3. He's been more consistent imo

you said you questioned that then changed youre mine

now there is no doubt. after tonight? why did that doubt leave because of an exhibition game?

what has changed since last yr to change your mind? only thing it couldve been was this game

i honestly hope both players pan out well. whoever can help this team great. but right now i wouldnt put hurd ahead of austin and neither do i think the coaching staff will. they have been higher on austin since last summer

The entire offseason and training camp, this game was just more proof.

And yes I hope both players pan out well as well. They're both Cowboys.

Miles had a stupid stupid easy drop. but Besides that He's done enough in real game action to warrent the #3 spot. Nobody is taking Crayton out of the number 2 spot. Atleast not right now.

it was just one game.. one drop by Austin.. one great game (or drive, rather) by Hurd.. neither player won or lost the #3 spot tonight.. i imagine it'll remain close until the season starts..

Buehler could manhandle Crayton out of his #2 spot.

I'm not going to make any determinations based upon a vanilla offensive scheme in the first preseason game. Austin's drop had a good chance of going for 6...

Neither looked good enough to be a #3 tonight. In fact, most of the backups looked like they should be serving meals at McDonald's and not playing football for a living.

Want some fries with that....

NextGenBoys, I'm with you 100%. It's clear that Hurd is the more polished WR at this point in time.

He doesn't have Austin's speed, but that's the ONLY thing Austin has on Hurd.

i don't think anyone can really say after ONE game, but so far in camp he has been catching everything thrown to him, and last nights game he really made some good catches and a few with some zip on them.

He looked good, cannot deny that, but we have all of preseason to determine where they stand.

I like both Hurd and Austin I expect both to contribute to the offense this season. Who is ahead of who? Hurd clearly is doing very well in the early going he has to keep it up as for Austin still a lot or camp left I would not put too much into the 1st pre-season game of the year.
