So after all the offseason hype surrounding Miles Austin and how he was going to push Crayton for the number 2 spot, is it Sam Hurd who is in control of the number three spot pushing Austin clear back to number 4???
Hurd clearly outplayed Austin, as Austin had an opportunity, but dropped the pass. I was originally higher on Hurd than Austin, but after Hurd got hurt last year and Austin had the big game in Green Bay I questioned that.
Not anymore. IMO Hurd is the better receiver whether he is slower or not. He clearly outplayed Austin tonight, and in 07 was a very solid number three for us.
Austin has never showed good hands nor route running, and his hands let him down yet again tonight. He may have the speed that we desperately need at WR, but it doesnt take away from the fact that a WR has one main job to do - catch the ball.
Hurd is doing a better job of that, and a better job playing the wide receiver position regardless of speed.
