When I watched the game live last week you could obviously see that the run blocking was hideous, but of course watching the game live you tend to follow Romo instead of watching the line.

So, I went back to watch what was happening last night and I was appalled. The defensive line wasn't just sheading blocks to make a play, they were outright beating the offensive line off the snap. On almost all running plays in the first quarter Bigg Davis outright wiffed on his block. His man ran right past him while he blocked air.

As I said, everyone knew the run blocking was bad, but this was so disturbing to see that I just had to share it.

On a good note, the pass blocking was pretty good.

Everyone was pretty bad for most of the game.

One thing that disturbed me was the complete lack of effort from Davis in stopping the first INT from being returned for a TD. He barely moved, despite being in pretty good position to at least force the safety out of bounds. But oh well...

Yeah, I had the same feeling about Romo on the second INT for a TD, but after watching it at full speed it happen much faster (about 2 seconds) than it appeared even when trying to adjust to it being in slow motion.

I don't think the pass blocking was all that great. I saw Flozell and Columbo get bullrushed a number of times, something I never thought I would see against Adams.

Romo got the ball out on time so he didn't take a sack but he rushed a lot of his passes. Also his fumble came when the pass blocking broke down and he was forced to run for it.

been saying it about this cat for a while...Pettiti was so bad anyone would be an upgrade...but Columbo is not a Super Bowl RT. I know you cannot have steak at all 53 positions...but you need close to steak at the 5 positions along the OL...I just don't think this guy is big time enough.

The Cowboys faced a pretty good pass rush and looks they've never seen before. Even the best players in the league has trouble on some plays. The fact that the Cowboys faced a lot of exotic looks they've never seen before and still didn't give up a sack speaks volumes. Only one INT that Romo gave up (that I remember) was pressure related and that wasn't *fully* Colombo's fault. (the INT caught in the end zone) Colombo was protecting the pocket and didn't realize Romo had came out of the pocket behind him to his side which left Romo unprotected. Colombo had allowed (Kelsay?) to go wide because Colombo though Romo was still inside the pocket.

The Cowboys are tied for 8th in the league only giving up 6 sacks this season. The Lions have given up 28 so far.

You know what else was terrible? The pass rush from canty, Spears and ratlif...Terrible. WAre and Spencer were the only oncs beating their man. The run D was decent though.

I disagree. I think as a whole the defensive front seven was a freakin monster against the Bills. It was there work that shut the Bills down. Bradie was all over the field and the Bills running game was non-existent mainly because the Cowboys dominated the line of scrimage. It was Spears, Canty, and Ratliff that allowed Bradie into the backfield to stuff those 3rd and 4th and 1 plays.

Canty and Spears are NOT PASS RUSHER from the outside...Spears or Canty might give you something inside...but the Sooner we get Ratliff, Ellis, Hatcher, Bowen coming from the outside the better. This is why the Tank Johnson signing was a good one. Ratliff deserves some chances outside...he is probably exhausted from playing inside so much. But I will contiue to say it...what you see is what you get from Spears and Canty...1 of them will see a 2nd contract from Dallas...not sure which one..but we will not keep both.

is that a good line or a quick romo?

like i said, romo is making the line look better than it really may in fact be. but when i say that people think i revert to my bulldog days when it sucked for bledsoe.

the simple fact is our line is vastly improved over what we had but romo's mobility does help. but it doesn't help the run blocking of which our line isn't doing very well.

vastly improved doesn't mean "fixed" just yet.

I don't understand what you are saying. Are you saying the line sucks even though it's vastly improved? What would you consider NOT suck for an offensive line? Sure Romo helps, but this offensive line is one of the best pass blocking lines in the league at this point. There real weakness at this point is their run blocking which amazes me because it was pretty good last year and with Davis replacing Rivera you would have expected it to be even better. It comes down to fundamentals which is something Davis had always had problems with. People are trying to hang Colombo, but thats just flat wrong.

did you hear me talk in extremes?

NO. so let's not go there.

vastly improved. does that equate to SUCK in your world?

i said the pass blocking is good, aided by a very mobile romo and the RUN BLOCKING needs help.

i'm pretty happy you don't understand me cause i sure have any idea what your point is here.

i agree, the line is playing allright, but theyt are not playing great and Romo has avoided a bunch of sacks that most of the other NFL QB's would not have been able to get away from.

well i am a lot happier about the line than i used to be, that's for sure. i just think it's not time to call it "fixed" just yet. hopefully our rookies we drafted will come on and show they can play and maybe we do have the pieces, just not all in place yet.

i still would love to see an anchor on T emerge cause flo, well flo will always be flo. i imagine we keep him unless someone just goes nuts on the $.

In games pass the Offensive line has mauled the other team what i saw last week was a line that showed up expecting to just roll out on the field and win the game. The oline attacked the 1st 4 games mauling everyone in the path. Flo got manhandled because he was not firing out like he should. This team was looking forward and it showed.

Wade said on the Pats media call that Colombo has gotten a game ball two out of the five weeks for being the best player on the offensive line.

He's not that impressive-looking, but he usually gets the job done pretty well.
