Some of us have always loved defense far more than offense.

Ditto.

and if you want to flip this around.

In the crucial moments of the game adalius thomas was trying to cover kevin boss down the field with help from rodney harrison and then ellis hobbs who is pretty average gets beat in the endzone.

All sounds familiar to me.

the giants d went to tampa and beat garcia in his house, went to dallas and beat romo in his house, went to green bay and beat favre in his house and then went to arizona and beat brady in a game he usually shines in.

very impressive. they have drafted numerous pressure players and a couple of first round cornerbacks.

Our defense did a very good job of getting the Giants off the field the entire game with one exception and that was only 47 seconds before halftime, again, when we were in a prevent. Am I completely happy with the defense? No, we need to get better. My point was, our defense was not the reason we went home early this year. The played more than well enough to win. As for the Giant's defense, they're good, but we handled them easily twice this year. Our offense had their heads up their collective ***** in the playoff game.

yes, I am not letting the Offense off the hook.

BUT, any D that lets another team to drive 60 yards to score a TD without using a timeout (maybe they used ONE)in less than 60 seconds is not good enough. Simple as that.

Without that TD, we may have even won the game because it WAS the momentum shifter for the G men.

I agree and disagree.

The offense didn't do what it was suppose to. But neither did the defense.

However, I hold the defense more accountable because:

1. There's NO WAY you should miss gimme tackles like the one against Toomer.

2. There's NO WAY you should allow a touchdown with 43 seconds left in the half.

3. How many No. 1 picks do we have on defense? Greg Ellis, Terrance Newman, Roy Williams, DeMarcus Ware, Marcus Spears, Anthony Spencer, Bobby Carpenter (who's sitting the bench). How many No. 1 picks do we have on offense? None. (No, I don't count Marc Colombo and Leonard Davis because they were picked by other teams.)

Yes, I expect more out of this defense because rebuilding the defense with No. 1 picks has been this team's chief priority.

Meanwhile on offense we have ... a free agent QB who has been playing lights out but is still green compared to most veteran quarterbacks, a former first round WR who was coming off knee surgery and really hadn't had much playing time, an all-world WR who wasn't 100 percent, a fifth-round quarterback turned receiver, a fourth round barbarian who was getting his first start at running back.

Yes, I expected more out of this defense than this offense, especially since defense wins championships.

It's one thing for your defense to give up touchdowns during the course of a game. That's going to happen.

It's another when your defense misses easy tackles or lets a team score a touchdown right before half-time with only 43 seconds left in the game.

But that's understandable because the Giants defense was tired.

What excuse did the Cowboys defense have after that time-consuming drive right before half-time when our defense was resting on the sidelines?

They came out well rested. They should have stopped the Giants, but they didn't. So whose fault is that? Coaching or players?

Either way, the defense let us down.

Unfortunately for the one's that said our defense didn't lose us that game, I think that giving up a TD with 53: on the clock before half time became our demise.

Great defenses don't allow that type of stuff. I thought both defenses were outstanding in the SB, not just NY.

This brings me to our problem on defense. Ware - great - Ellis/Spencer inconsistant - James = pretty decent but no speed - Akin = useless, JAG

Ratliff = great = Canty - good against the run, some pressure - Tank = I don't know yet - Spears = nothing special - Hatcher and the rest, just guys.

We need speed in the corner back area with skills (not just speed)
We need a FAST FAST ILB since James is slow, but a pretty good run stuffer.
We need a beefier NT and we absolutely need SPENCER to have a break out year.

We need a beefy NT, Ratliff as an end, Canty as an end, and in the nickel, we need Tank and Ratliff to man the middle, and Spencer and Ware to terroize the interior, along with (Free Agent ILB with speed)

Dream wishlist - Wish we could add Haynesworth sp? and some speed inside LB, don't know who's out there, and the corner from San Fran.

The bottom line is when you get to the playoffs, you're not going to pitch a shut-out very often. Teams are going to score on any defense. Yea, we missed a couple of tackles on that first N.Y. TD. Yes, we gave up a TD just before the half, but again, I fault that one primarily on the coaching staff. Poor defensive play calling. The defense really only gave up those two scores as a result of miscues. It's going to happen. The last N.Y. TD was the fault of poor offensive execution and extremely poor special teams play. Our offense has to put up more than 17 points in ANY playoff game. I agree the TD right before the half hurt, but it was still a tied game at the half and we only managed 3 points in the entire second half. That's why we lost.

Also another reminder that a lot of the December slide can be directly attributed to the porous D.
