Again, what do we do at corner?

All these guys are going to be available this offseason.....

Tracy Porter - NO
Terrell Thomas - NYG
William Gay - Pitt
Cortland Finnegan - Tenn
Brandon Carr - KC
Tim Jennings - Chicago
Brent Grimes - Atl
Carlos Rogers - SF
Eric Wright - Det
Marcus Trufant - Sea

Of this list I would like to see either Jennings, Rogers, Wright, or Finnegan (Yuck) signed.

Oh and one more thing..... Scandrick has gotta go!

What I like about this list is that none of these guys are DOMINANT dbs in the make of Asomugha or Revis, but they have starting experience with some good years. That's what we need right now. Jenkins can slide over and get someone else who is solid next to him. Because it's a deep pool you should be able to get a good deal. Then focus your efforts on improving the line or Lbers (get at least one pressure player in the draft), get a DB who can eventually start but you don't have to lean on from day one, and fix the OL.

Yeah I have no idea what he's going to command. Not sure what other teams are DB hungry (I assume NE is one but they also don't overpay).

I'm all for making moves in FA but too often I see guys get contracts that just seem off the mark. Looking at some contracts handed out to safeties last year was mind boggling.

Just my view I think FA is a great place to fill gaps but the draft is where you build a team. I'm not a big fan of going after high priced FA who sledom live up to the contracts they end up with.

He's a dick to be sure, but I think he would play well for us for 2-3 years if we draft someone in a relatively deep CB draft. That way we can draft the line early on.

I thought that too, turns out he's not as big of a dick as you think. Just tries to get in your head on the field.

I'd go after either Finnegan or Thomas, if he's healthy, in FA. If we don't get either of those two guys i'd say try to pick a CB or two early in the draft.

Carlos Rogers or Aaron Ross would maybe be 2 other guys to look at. Though i'd still look early in the draft for CB if we signed either of them.

Yeah I just mean that he has a history of drawing penalties and fines, and I HATE penalties.

I agree with this, but I think Rogers will be kept by San Fran, but if they go deep the the playoffs he will command a bigger contract.

Like I said earlier, such a middle ground crop of DBs means that we should be able to get a deal. Only concern is we have to make sure it is an upgrade, not just an anyone-but-newman scenario.

Agreed, i think any of these 4 guys would at least be a little bit of an upgrade, some a huge upgrade. Other than these 4 though, i'd just as much rather see us go round 1 or 2 in the draft on a CB.

Then we need to get one of the four. No good to draft another CB in the 1st or 2nd if you can't get to the QB or protect your own.

I'd like to see us take BPA at either CB or DL/OL in the first and second round. So maybe take the best OG/DL in the first round and then in the second take the best CB. Or vice versa. We definitely need upgrades to the DL/OL (interior OL to be specific) and i agree that needs to be our top priority in the offseason.

Didn't realize Terrell Thomas was a UFA. T2 is the Giants best corner, tore his ACL in camp. I would look into that. If he can come on the cheap bc of the injury even better. Very complete CB. One of the better tackling corners in the game.

I guess my question would be then if he is healthy why wouldn't the Giants resign him? Giants have a lot of problems of their own in the secondary

I'd say he'll probably go back to the Giants IMO. Ross is a UFA and Prince will move into that role next year I would assume.

But he'd definetly be a good target for us.

Aaron Ross is a FA too. Can't spend all your money in one place. I'd imagine they try to resign him over the guy coming off a torn ACL, or they may try to go in a different direction altogether. Who knows.

Sorry I would not touch Aaron Ross. I watched a lot of Giants games over the last few year and the guy gets burnt about as often as Newman has lately. I know some will point he has 4 ints on the season, so does Newman.

As a big time Longhorns fan I liked Ross coming out of college but fact is he has been injured more often than Newman and burnt just as much

This is absolutely the guy I would target - as a few others have mentioned.

Thomas was by far the Giants best corner prior to injury and I would definitely look into signing him.

Bring him in for a workout and see how his rehab is going (we haven't shied away from knee injuries when it comes to quality players recently).

I think you could get somewhat of a discount because of the injury and you would be weakening a division rival as well.

I think Thomas can be our #1 cornerback if and when he's fully recovered from injury.

He's not a guy i would have at the top of the list either, but i was just saying they may try to resign him over a guy coming off a torn ACL. Or they may go in a different direction altogether.

The point was, you had said why wouldn't the Giants try to resign Thomas, and i was pointing out there were a few reasons why they might not. Its not like every good upcoming UFA gets resigned.

I think Giants of course are monitoring Thomas situations and if his recovery is going as they hope I expect they will resign him. Given the fact they will be picking late in the draft it could be hard to find a CB early on.

Giants main weakness is their secondary I just don't see them letting their top CB leave. I think Ross could be gone he has been a walking injury and a weakness in their secondary. Having said that I would not touch Ross

Thomas has developed very well. But I hope the Giants let him walk. I firmly believe we need to sign one guy and draft a guy super early. I'd love any of these CB's, Carr, Finnegan, Grimes or Thomas. Finnegan would be able to come in and give Moss, DJack, Maclin and Cruz fits IMO. He also has the swagger and attitude that we so sorely need too.

I fully expect that the Giants would try to resign him.

That doesn't mean that we couldn't.

No it doesn't but I don't think NY lets him walk without making a substantial offer to keep him. It is not as if NY does not have major problems in the secondary so why would they let a top player go?

I think it is more likely that Ross will not be retained.

Just trying to use some logic here.
