Kiss fans protest outside Rock Hall

CLEVELAND, Ohio (AP) -- About 200 Kiss fans protested in front of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum to demand that the band be inducted into the hall.

Fans, some from as far away as California, carried signs Saturday and had painted their faces in black-and-white to resemble Kiss band members.

Those participating in the half-hour demonstration were upset that the band, formed more than 30 years ago, has not been admitted, even though it has been eligible since the late 1990s.

Artists become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record, according to the museum's Web site.

"Criteria include the influence and significance of the artist's contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll," the site says.

A museum spokesman said it was the first demonstration by fans seeking to have a group inducted.

The foundation that selects inductees is based in New York City, not at the museum.

There are plenty of Questionable bands in there.

Kiss should be in.

And while we're at it I can't believe that the Rock & Roll induction ceremonies are held in New York and not at the Hall in Cleveland...That's a Travesty!

Could you imagine the Football Hall of Fame holding their induction ceremonies in New York and Not Canton?

Not a bad Idea at all.:p:

Seriously though...I don't know of any other Hall of Fame...From the Science Fiction to the Rock Skippers Hall of Fame...Holding their Induction ceremonies anywhere but at their Halls...It's just incredible to me.

Kiss should be in.

Whether you cared for their music or not they have done plenty to get in and have inspired many like only a handful of bands have.

Agreed.

Whether you liked them, followed them or not at all,

... they should be in the "Rock n Roll All Night and Party Everyday" Hall of Fame.

Name one other band that inspired a group of midgets?

You don't see Mini-Temptations, or Mini-Beatles, or Mini-Rage Against the Machine, do ya???

Case closed!! :D

The Daily Show once had a clip on Mini-Kiss vs. Mini-Kiss. Apparently, another group of midgets also decided to become "Mini-Kiss" and it pissed off the original Mini-Kiss. The original band claimed they were there first, the other band of midgets claimed they were the only ones who actually played musical instruments (the original Mini-Kiss lip synchs), and all in all, it was the best ten minute midget special you've ever seen.

Kiss in?

How about the New York Dolls -- where the hell do folks think the entire tough guy in makeup idea came from?

BTW, I met Gene at a record industry even about 18 years ago -- he was a very nice and genuine person. i wasn't a fan and didn't really recognize him -- but he talked to me for about 5 minutes about a new album -- can't remember exactly what it was but I kind think it was a Cure album (I know that seems nuts).

Ever heard of Alice Cooper?

I think he predates the New York Dolls by a couple of years.
