Agree? Or Disagree?

Ever heard of Alice Cooper?

I think he predates the New York Dolls by a couple of years.

Certainly both are KISS influences -- but I'd say that the Dolls have had far more influence musically than Cooper.

Musically probably but theatrical I would say Alice is more of an inspiration.

Not only the makeup but the other theatrics.

Either way, I was never a fan of NY Dolls but I do, even to this day, like to hear Alice.

I'm the complete opposite -- musically I prefer the Dolls. But I'm guessing that you like the metal.

Name one other band that inspired a group of midgets?

You don't see Mini-Temptations, or Mini-Beatles, or Mini-Rage Against the Machine, do ya???

Case closed!! :D

That's Freaky.

I find the idea of a Rock N Roll hall of fame disagreable to start with. It's like building an alter to noise.

Obviously Cliff, you never learned to play that guitar. ;) :p: :moon:

I absolutely think they need to be in rock-n-roll hall of fame. Probably the marketing hall of fame as well. They may not have been the first to wear the makeup and have the theatrics but they were definitely the most successful.

Kiss Army, Kiss dolls, knight in satans service...they were on everyone's lips for a long time.

I am also not a NY Dolls fan but Alice was awesome.

i've been there. it kind of sucks. it is like a huge, over priced, CD shop with considerably less displays and memorabilia than you'd expect. there isn't an exhibit for every artist in the hall -- just their names on a wall.

if you do go, find out what day it is free (one day a week is free there) -- otherwise it is something like $30 to get in.

the coolest thing about the HoF is the building -- absolutely spectacular looking with great views of the river.

In the first picture, the midget Paul has the star on the wrong side, unless both quitar players are left handed and the picture is in backwards.

They are disqualified.

Did anyone realize that Gene Simmons has never done drugs or ever been drunk ?

Pretty wild for a Rock Star !

Yes Metal, blues and some other stuff.

Oddly I never really cared for Kiss when I was young and to be honest I am not a huge Kiss fan now, just like some of their songs.

He has always claimed that his weakness or drug is Sex.

On a side note the man also speaks many languages.

Same can be said for Ted Nugent, the craziest rock star of all.

I've never been impressed with it either.

BTW, that great view.......it's a lake.

To answer the question, sure, why not....everyone that has ever cut an album is eventually going to be there anyway.

Loved KISS and had many of their albums from the late 70s...and yes, even the 80s.

Feel-good story, when I was a kid back in the late 70s we were living in Spain and the local base was going to show a concert on video for a buck. Since I was in a nice mood that day I invited my older brother to come along, he appreciated it so much that 20 years later he returned the favor by treating me to the real thing. *Sniff* Memories, man!

Oh yeah. Erie, of course -- I confuse the County name with the body of water (Cuyahoga). Wondered why it was so clean.

An old saying that'll help you remember....'Cleveland, Ohio, with the tower that's Terminal and the lake that's Erie.'

But really, they cleaned up that river years ago.....rivers catching on fire turn out to be a public relations nightmare.

My late father lived in a quiet suburban neighborhood in Saskatoon, Sk. My mother still lives there alone.

About 11 years ago my father was working on his front yard picking out the weeds when one day this guy came walking by with his dog and struck a conversation up with him.

(As a side note I went to university with a guy named J___ Tweed. His sister's name is Shannon.)

Shannon's sister who was featured on a bunny spread with her more famous sister lives at the end of the block with her boyfriend.

The guy who ended up striking a conversation with my father was in town visiting his mother and sister in law and staying at the sister in law's boyfriend's house. That guy was Gene Simmons.

I was away at the time for the week that Gene was in town incognito. Dad was a teacher back in China so they talked about teaching. Gene was a teacher at one time.

They talked about travelling in the Orient. I guess Kiss did a few tours over to Japan.

When I got home I asked Dad what was new and he told me about this daily visitor he had named Gene Simmons. Now I knew that J___'s older sister lived down the block so I asked Dad who this guy was. He presented him as an ordinary fellow.

I proceeded to get a few library books about KISS and inform my father about this guy. Dad couldn't believe it.

Well, the Simmons/Tweed pair continued to visit Saskatoon on a regular basis and although Shannon's sister left the boyfriend and the house down the street got sold, Gene continued to visit my father when he was in town.

Imagine what a 70 year Chinese guy and Gene Simmons would have in common?

Five years ago KISS announced Saskatoon as one of it's tour dates. Concert sold out in a few minutes. He came into town and while my wife was at Mom's helping with the cleaning of the house (my mom is over 80) Gene phoned to say "Hi" to Dad.

Well Chris had the misfortune of informing Gene that Dad had died the summer earlier. That Friday our family was invited to the hotel to meet with Gene and his family who was having a privately catered meal in one of the banquet rooms.

I was surprised to learn that Gene and Dad had continued to meet after the first meeting for at least a couple of dozen times. Dad would get him a big glass of cooled green tea and they would sit on the front step and talk.

He was choked to hear that Dad had passed on and very appreciative of having met someone who didn't care that he was a member of KISS.

Every Christmas since 2001 my mother has received a card from Gene and Shannon. He's been very nice to my parents.
