Good to hear because he was one of the few that showed up like they care and can play at the same time.

The only concern is his fit. I see no reason why he could not necessarily be a starter if had a complementary piece, i.e. a safety better in coverage, with him.

He and Church are more similar than different.
they are very different Dixon shows alot more burst then church and its only been one game but I can see Dixon becoming the FS and church moving to SS...wilcox better make some plays next week

People are going to have a hard time reconciling Dixon's status if he doesn't improve on coverage and ST. I personally think he is behind Hamilton and Heath who both contribute on teams and know how to cover.

Projecting on base level observations, is a tough task master. It is still early in the process of earning starting points from which to grow, as a 'rook.' But applied to even a BW Webb, one can easily miss both direction and sophistication being focused upon along the lines of transitioning from what was the 3-4 last season, and where it is going to this season and into the future.

A good article is already on site, to explore just some of these directions and how the scouts fit ability into changing roles upon the team:

I stand behind an earlier statement, that if the defensive front is able to hold ground, the secondary will become something of a monster itself. It will highlight an old school black and blue zone and anyone on that turf will not get away with sneeky indecision. Smart moves can then be identified and corrections initiated by the coaching staff.

I thought Ahmad Dixon at first glimpse showed exactly what his scouting report stated... Box safety type with limited coverage abilities and at his best in run support... We shall see if he can develop

nothing wrong with having a guy like this on the team instead of guys like heath who just stand there doing nothing when the ball drops right next to them,Dixon has instincts in the run game which is valuable and hopefully he can learn to cover too.

Heath knows how to cover?

Lol.

He reacts to routes being run into his zone and tries to make plays on the ball. He knows how to diagnose plays even if he takes bad angles playing up and last season was too small to compete for the ball in the air. Dixon stares at the ball as receivers run routes. It is what it is.

I'm thinking, if he is staring...he is still learning. I can't change bad technique, although, without extreme focus and a lot of reinforcement training. Instinct is still a response action, and if responses are incorrect, that is harder to change.

This talks to this fan at least:

OXNARD, Calif. — Cowboys coach Jason Garrett was very complimentary of rookie safety Ahmad Dixon’s play in the 27-7 preseason-opening loss to the San Diego Chargers. Garrett couldn’t say enough good things about Dixon’s physical play and tackling, pointing out that it was something he wanted the entire team to emulate.

Not to be out done, defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli gushed even more about the seventh-round pick from Baylor when it was his turn to talk after the practice Saturday

“He really tackled,” Marinelli said. “He was extremely physical. He was all over the field. He hustled and went for strips. Everything we wanted he attempted to do.”

Like Garrett, Marinelli said Dixon played so well that he has earned some snaps with the first team on defense.

“Oh, yeah,” Marinelli said.

Love how this kid hits, and he really timed that run blitz well (the loss of four yards). I think if the Cowboys can hide his coverage problems he can be a real asset.

We've already established that the one play you're talking about with Dixon wasn't his responsibility in a single high Cover 3 set.
