AI - Artificial Intelligence - Will it eat you Alive?

Just look at all the fake AI out there. It’s everywhere and people like you are so gullible you believe it. That’s a huge problem. Now who has the inability to grasp what AI is all about?
You think HAL9000 and SKYNET exist
delusional

Where did I say that? I didn’t. That’s what you haters do. You just make **** up and hope it sticks.
everyone (and that means most) that disagree with you are somehow haters
pathetic

I have no problems with people disagreeing with me. That’s what this place is all about. What I do disagree with (and for the millionth time) are people like you who crap on anything and everything positive every day 365. That’s a hater and you wear it proudly.

See, I'm convinced a lot of this sentient AI stuff is just a marketing ploy to get investors to think it's doing something other than generating probabilistic output based on the data it's been trained on.

That's all this is. It had to be the data it was trained on. OpenAI isn't exactly an ethical company anyway, stealing copyrighted data, and all of that. So they're just trying to get more investments with this kinda thing, imo.

The bigger issue isn't AI, it's Titan software in the hands of the wrong groups.

If you haven't read up on that, you should...

100%

Half the population can’t tell fact from fiction. Wait until these deepfake/AI doctored videos start improving and they will be utterly convinced.
My opinion is that the government has had this ability for a long time...probably even used it in the early 2000s.

Military tech is almost always 30 years ahead of what the public has access to. Even in the first gulf war, we had GPS guided missiles.

How long did it take before the public has GPS maps or Mapsco-less GPS guided food delivery.

And now self-driving GPS guided food delivery and even drones delivering packages.

Truly a crazy time to be alive.

Very likely
true artificial intelligence has to show sentience and sapience and there has been no sign of that at all
considering we still do not really know how our brains work, it is not surprising that no one has really figured out how to make an AI work

A large percentage of what you see in social media is AI generated. That’s where the real threat comes from. Unfortunately, there are many people who see an AI generated Twitter post and believe it.
That would be half the population right now. And most of them are very susceptible to fake news already.

Says the guy that had to ask the mods to take down a video of a bombing in Iran that turned out to be fake “I usually never fall for this stuff.” Kabooom
:lmao2:

I'm the one that caught the mistake and corrected it. Lol.
Which means I never fall for it. Did you know your side doesn't understand basic biology?

Wait. I did fall for AI generated music once. :)

That's a whole topic in itself. AI-generated music is definitely ramping up, and while I haven’t been completely fooled by it, I’ll admit I’ve heard some that sounds pretty good. The tricky part is where it crosses into ethical territory.......especially when it's imitating artists who have passed away, which is most of what I’ve come across. It raises questions about whether it's morally right, how the artist’s estate feels about it, and what kind of legal ground it stands on.

It’s really amazing what China has and is able to accomplish. Their auto manufacturers are pretty much leaving the rest of the world behind. They develop a whole new car line in 1/2 the time that we can do here. Their workers are cheaper and look forward to working longer hours than their American counterparts.

China also produces about 4X the amount of STEM graduates on a yearly basis vs the US. We better start learning how to freaking compete!
It's not just China, we are falling behind other countries like India as well.

china also has over 4X the people we do
so that number is not as impressive as you want it to seem

China's quality control is still not all that; so doing something fast is not exactly all that many times

and their workers are pushing for more pay and benefits like ours did years ago

so their edge is not as great as it seems

they also have massive problems with pollution and funding medical care because of that pollution

those drooling over China like to cherry pick things

Yes, today AI is rudimentary. It processes data and devises answers to problems based on the human knowledge it can consume. That limits it's value. But the question is, can AI ever think on its own? Can it deduce conclusions rather than derive answers from computations it has been programmed to make?

I think AI even in it's current forms has some value, we just have to be careful not to value its thinking too much. I see people on X asking grok questions to prove a point on way or the other. But grok is not always right, and it sometimes contradicts itself as the information available is updated. Still, you can ask grok to do some simple tasks, like develop a standard Business Continuity Plan based on certain parameters and it will do a fairly decent job producing a basic plan that can then be tailored for specific conditions.

I think the problem will be if people assign too much trust in AI and begin to use it as an arbiter of truth or fact.

No you didn’t you lying sack.

Someone else posted that it was a fake and then you followed up asking the mods to take down the thread because you got fooled.

You fall for AI generated stuff all the time and just don’t know it.
