Let me give you some perspective.

You think the last 20 years have been hard.

Imagine if last super bowl win was 1977

I was saying that as a metaphor, obviously we still would have had the 3 SBs in the 90s... but in alot of ppls minds there would have been an asterisk next to his name.

I get it my friend. It would bother you and a very small percentage of others... But.... There is no way in the world that the 3 Super Bowls get an asterisk because of that..... (See below)

It would have been interesting but I don't think I'd have a problem with it. Since he was cut from the Cowboys, he is entitled to go anywhere he wants.

Yup!

Or how about the Lions, never been to a SB, last playoff win in 1991, against Dallas, with Aikman on the sidelines the first half.
Or, could be an Eagles fan....:igglestrophy:

I've heard Aikman tell this story a few times. Each time he was careful to make it clear that his legacy in Dallas was part of the consideration. But I think the bigger consideration was his broadcasting career being on a fast track and the fact that it just wasn't something he was able to commit to physically.

And I'm a huge Aikman fan. The guy represents a commitment to hard work and winning and to his job. You see it even in his broadcasting career. He could no more act like Michael Irvin does in front of a camera than he could not do his job on Sundays. It's just a different mindset (I love watching Irvin, too, for entirely different reasons). It's the difference between a brain and a heart. But I definitely respect him for it and for his role in making our dynasty possible.

Well said.

Aikman wanted to continue his career pretty badly, despite suffering through multiple concussions and a bad back. He loved to play the game, but it's better that he retired. Kansas City, I remember, being a real possibility, but not he Eagles.

I think Aikman as a performer is under-appreciated. People claim his OL is what made him, but the offense he played in didn't utilize him for statistics. You couldn't find a more accurate passer and a stronger arm, but a man who just wanted to win and didn't let stats bother him. Part of the reason that offense was unstoppable was his precision and timing. It was a machine, with Irvin running the most precise patterns, with Aikman placing it where it needed to be, through the tightest of windows.

I may have to start a thread one day ... "If you had the talent to play football and make millions of dollars and could only play for the Eagles, would you or would you hold to your fandom loyalty and reject the opportunity to play in the NFL and for the Eagles?"

Players don't view these rivalries in the same way fans do.

Do people forget Dorsett finished his career in Denver and Emmitt in Arizona? Even Irvin was not a favorite of Chan Gailey, who often pulled him out of games for Jeff Ogden. If Irvin wasn't forced to retire in 1999 could he have finished his career elsewhere as well?

This. At least 95% of CZ posters would probably put on that Eagles uniform.

People don't forget. There is a world of difference in playing for one of those organizations post-Cowboys and going to the Eagles.

And he didn't so it, so kind of a senseless discussion.....

Aikman was pretty much done. I wasn't really worried about it. It just would have been a sad ending to a great career. It wouldn't have taken anything away from what he did in Dallas though. I'll always be grateful for him for that.

I've heard him tell this story a few times as well. He's always said that it was never really a serious consideration for him and I have to take him at his word.

The funny think is that it's probably the closest Philly has ever come to having a chance to win a title.

I find it laughable that people care whether he would have signed with Philly once he was clearly a spent player.

By all means, sign him. My fan boy posters aren't threatened.
