Aikman On Rome today - 09/10/09

I dont understand the Aikman hate at all.

Some fans just want him to spew Pro Cowboys garbage at all times, but that's not going to happen.

I agree, he is the best color analyst out there. Him and Buck call the best games hands down.

What I find hilarious are the fans who hate on Aikman, and then turn around and say Joe Theismann is unwatchable during football games because he is such a homer.

Troy is now a broadcaster and not a fan / player. He may tell it "wrong" according to some, but you can not accuse him of not telling it like he sees it.

He actually gets enthusiastic about Romo when he talks about him.

So does Trent Dilfer.

These former NFL quarterbacks see how good this guy is and can be.

I think he is hands down the best color analyst in the NFL right now. I know that is not a popular opinion because he does not gush over the Cowboys, but I stand by it.

He and Moose are my Favorite at this time in fact I wish they drop Buck and put Moose back with Aikman it was a better tandem. Yes I feel Joe Buck is the wink link

Point #1 - I'll skip this for now.

Point #2 - Here's the difference between Emmitt & Troy. Troy gently pointed out this shortcoming at season's end, even a year ago during the Cabo thing if I recall. Now, he simply says "wait and see." Its neither pro nor con. It doesn't skirt the issue either. It also allows him to maintain a relationship with Tony in a way that he could help him.

Emmitt's approach, to me, had more of a "write him off" flavor.

Point #3 - This is classic Troy in how he approaced the game. I also think he's probably a bit more forgiving of Michael not being a distraction than is appropriate. We all know that no one outworked Michael on the field. But suggesting that negated any of the White House distraction stuff probably isn't 100% accurate.

Mike is probably the poster boy for claims that "off the field doesn't matter if you work hard while clocked in" but not every athlete can pull that off.

Micheal was the heart of that SB team. It was not just "out-working Michael on the field" during games, it was every practice. Seeing the NFL Network "Road to Canton" on Michael and listening to comments by Woodson and JJ tells us who Michael really was and what he cared about. It was always team first.

I don't want that of any announcer. I listened to the Minnesota Vikings broadcast for that last PS game. It was all Vikings. It was also annoying as hell. It would be annoying for any team to be gushed over like that.

I had to suffer through that as well; I was on the road during the game and with no local Cowboy affiliates (west Texas) I had to listen on Sirius. Finally, I could take no more and missed the late 3rd-4th quarter. Didn't know we pulled off the win till later that night.

I especially liked the Brett Favaraaa interview that lasted the entire 2nd quarter....that was nice.:grrr::geezer:

I just think its not totally accurate if anyone suggests Michael was never a distraction and those distractions were never a detriment to the team. I thought Troy's comments suggested that a bit.

I thought Mayock and Co. were pretty good and would really like to see them in a regular broadcast, they were at least 10 times better than the Oakland crew...

Yesterday Jim Rome mentioned what Emmitt said and agreed with Emmitt, and went so far as to say there was "no way" you could disagree with Emmitt.

I like Rome's show but I never agree with him on anything cowboys cause he's a hater. Rome is the king of ripping a player to shreds only to interview that player a few weeks later and kiss his *** the whole time.

No issue with that, it is just that I think Irvin's "faults" get brought up by the media a lot more than the positives he brought to the table. i think troy is sensitive to that and tries to balance things a little.

Then I am glad I didn't hear the Oakland crew, because Mayock and partner Ari flat out sucked. I knew what every Viking player did on every 0lay but nothing about the Cowboys.

Sidney Rice did a marvelous job picking his nose on that play and keeping the Dallas CB occupied away from the football so he couldn't make a play.
