Parcells is basically a defacto GM and Ireland and Sparono are his guys he brought in.

Totally different situation from what is going on now in Dallas.

Defacto? Does this mean that Ireland and Sparono have little say so? According to Miami Ireland is the GM not BP, BP oversees football operations or in other words works as a consultant.

It means Parcells has a lot of say so. Moreso than just a consultant.

You are really, really reaching if you are trying to compare Parcells in Miami with Reeves being brought into an existing situation in Dallas.

Your example doesn't fit your conclusion. I don't see any contradiction in what Aikman said about Phillips and what he said about the consultant to suggest that his opinions change with the wind.

The way I read it, Aikman doesn't think Phillips is a strong coach and yet to bring in a consultant suggests that the coach (Phillips) needs help.

Translation: if you're a weak coach then you need help with a consultant. But, of course, that begs the question why hire a consultant anyway if you can just fire the coach and get a stronger one, thus, eliminating the need for a consultant?

Maybe I need to be a consultant to the Cowboys. :D

No, I wasnt using this to point how he changes opinions like the wind blows. I just threw that in their because I have heard him on the ticket contradict himself on Dallas, philadelphia and ny all year.

I don't think I am SF also did this with Walsh after he retired then came back as pretty much a consultant as for BP I'm sure he has say so why else would you pay a person to come in and not listen to what he has to say but it does not change the fact that he is a consultant he is not the GM he is not the HC and he is not the owner you can put any title you want on the job but the bottom line is it is a consultant job and I would think if Reeves is brought in Jerry will also listen to Reeves view points. Given the fact that Reeves and Wade have worked together in the past I doubt Wade is concerned with this move.

I guess Reeves will be just like Parcells in Miami.

I hope that means he'll bring in a new HC and GM. ;)

Dont be silly.

Parcells has no idea what he is doing without belichick.

So he is a bad example.

If Dallas does not show big improvement next year that very well could happen. As for this year I think Wade is the HC and Garrett will continue to be the OC. As for GM I'm not sure that is a position Jerry will give up but bringing in Reeves would show he is looking for input by a highly respected man in the NFL. Whether we call it GM or assistant GM, overseer of football operation or consultant if it will help this team evidently Jerry is willing to do it.

I would like to hear Troy Aikman's comments in its entirety.

However, I believe that Jerry Jones should hire Dan Reeves as Head Coach if he is indeed here to instill discipline and fix the toxic atmosphere that seems to exist in the lockerroom.

As I stated in another thread, "If" Wade Phillips asked Jerry Jones to hire Dan Reeves, Wade Phillips is basically telling Jerry Jones that he can't handle all facets of the job.

On the other hand, "If" Jerry Jones hired Dan Reeves himself, he is all but admitting that Wade Philliips isn't up to the job as a whole.

That was the entire commentary from Aikman.

Aikman seems be confusing theory from reality ..

of course we need a totally new coaching staff... duh! we're not getting that however.

just as important is that we need a CONSULTANT FOR JERRY.

Reeves can absolutely be that person. The fact he's good with Wade and Wade wants to lean on others is an added bonus... like killing two birds with one stone.

I don't know that Troy would disagree with you, but you're trying to sell still smells like a patch job.

Basically that our situation is rotten and will never be ideal, but let's at least try to make the most of it. Which is understandable and the right thing to do. But when analyzed from an outside perspective, it's hard to job heap praise atop a band-aid of a move when you know what's hidden underneath.

Reeves being brought in is a very smart move by Jerry but I don't necessari;y think he's here to help as Wade as much as he's here to assist Garrett. Wade has this defense playing well enough to succeed and few can doubt that. It's the offense that was lacking from gameplanning to play-calling to overall in game management.

Maybe Jerry sees that Jason was best with someone guiding him through the process.

We all saw what he is capable of all throughout the 2007 season but this past year it seems his timing was off. Looking at the highlights from 07 you might think every drive had a big play but that's not true. There were a ton of long drives that beat the crap out of the other team's defense and that gives any team opportunities for big plays. We took advantage.

This year Garrett didnt seem capable of calling the kinds of plays to extend drives to allow for the big plays to develop. As a result, the players lost confidence and drives were short circuited putting undue pressure on our defense. A defense not built to be on the field a long time.

So people would like to blame Wade for that but we know his hands are tied. Maybe bringing in a sagely veteran play caller/game planner was Wade's idea.

Considering the selection, I wouldn't be surprised if it was.

We might be thanking him soon.

Aikman needs to get off his horse and call his boy Garrett out... I'm getting sick and tired of his schtick that all is wrong with the organization, as long as it doesn't involve his boys...

Of course he is, he went to UCLA!

All Ucla alumni are smart when they start their education at OU to become smart enough to make the grades at Ucla. Not only that but it helps them be excellent players in the Nfl and great posters on internets like this one. Yay internets!
