Well... isn't that the same argument for Jerry being qualified as GM? He played football and has been around football people for 20 years now.

I think Troy has tons more football smarts than Jerry. Jerry isn't GM because he played football. The Cowboys are his toy plain & simple.

What possible qualifications does Troy Aikman have to be a GM?

exactly. He has zero qualifications. The same people that cry here daily about Jerry having no experience would hire #8 in a flash. Makes zero sense

Aikman will never go to Dallas, because he won't have the authority to do his job.

He said he would like to make the move a la John Elway, but not just yet. I think he will be a very good executive for somebody one day.

Not sure, because Jerry respects Aikman to a large degree. I think he'd kick his son out of the family and adopt Aikman if he could. If he's catered to an Arena QB bum in Garrett, though he has the ties of his father, what to say of Aikman, the guy Jerry has been looking for again in his drafting for over a decade.

I just read a biography of Coach Landry. Not the one where it talked about him dying a Giant fan but interesting enough the author said Jerry & Tom had a mutual contempt for the other. I have contempt for Jerry. Nice to know Tom felt the same. :)

why on earth would Jerry have contempt for Tom??

Because Tom wouldn't give him the time of day after he let him go. Jealousy. Different personalities.

The book is called THE LAST COWBOY: A LIFE OF TOM LANDRY.

Good read but a lengthy one.

I have said a number of times in other threads that I wouldn't mind seeing staubach in there, assuming he would be allowed to do the job...great business sense, knows football, connection to cowboy legendry...

Couldn't help but think the same thing, although he couldn't be much worse than Jerry. I would hope he'd at least do better in the future than he did with his pick of TE David LeFleuer years ago when he was our QB..

Don't forget the, "do whatever you can Jerry to get Joey Galloway" either.

He's basically saying if they call I'll think about it. Otherwise at the moment it's not in the cards

If this came to pass..

I'd do a back flip with a Triple Lutz..

Aikman has knowledge, vision, direction and communication.

Interesting if Garrett stays..

how would that work with Aikman's' old caddie as his HC?

Could be a match made in heaven.

At that point we could bring in Novacek as TE coach, Smith as RB coach and Irvin as WR coach.

Those guys are not doing anything important with their lives that couldn't be put on hold for another dynasty resurrection.

The Cowboys are his toy plain & simple.

Yes, and what point is it just too embarrassing to show off your toy to someone because they think to themselves, "yeah, but your toy sucks".
