And how many do you think he would've won if he was hired in '89 instead of Jimmy? Can you say zero?

Switzer inherited the back to back defending champions. He brought nothing to the table. Jerry just wanted to prove that any of 500 coaches could win with that team. He was right. But not many could've gotten them there in the first place or kept them contending for years. But instead of trying to find someone to help the team improve, Jerry let his ego ruin the franchise.

how come no one ever brings johnsons ego into this?

Amen. As is so often the case, both sides usually make some mistakes. I never do understand the lack of rational some fans exhibit. "It's all his fault", or "He should get all the credit."

How did this thread turn into a Switzer critique when it started out about Aikman and quoted him after the '92 season? :)

think of it like this, it's like whenever you start a thread about DeMarcus Ware and you mention Zimmer, or you start a QB thread, and mention Henson ;)

Was it the coaching or the team. How come Jimmy Johnson never did jack at Miami? I also agree that Troy had a problem with Switzer and Troy chose to quit rather than continue. Jerry got Joey Galloway to Dallas to help Troy and then he bails out. Whats with that Troy!!

Umm...Joey tore up his knee and Troy got another concussion during Week 1 against the Eagles.

I believe that was the only time during the regular season that they were on the same field together. What a crappy year. Rocket Ismail and...who were the other WR's? Wane McGarity?

Man, you must've missed Dandy Don's performances in the 60's. I think he had to play each game with more injuries than anybody on the team combined. Landry did NOT believe in protecting his quarterback in those early years.

Well, yes I did miss Meredith playing. I wasn't born until 1971.

Having coached a little myself, I can tell you Switzer walked into the toughest situation I can think of.

The team had just won back to back Super Bowls, and then he walks in.

He didn't feel part of all that I can guarantee you, and the players probably didn't think they needed him, .. and yet he is expected to lead the team ??

Tough task !

Tough situation to walk into, trust me.

He did a great job of keeping it going when most coaches would have come in and change everything to fit their ego.

The only reason we lost the NFC title game his first year was the 3 quick turnovers, hardly his fault.

And then he won the Super Bowl the 2nd yr.

The guy was a great football coach, his record proves that.

And as far as the discipline, you guys act like he bought the dope and hired the hookers.

You act these guys were all coming in by 11:00 pm and going to church every other day until Switzer got there.

He didn't change their character, they were what they were and would have been no matter who coached them.

They were young, brash, cocky and full of themselves because they were 3 time Super Bowl champs not because Switzer made them that way.

You may not have liked the man, but he is a winner when it comes to the football field.

I agree with you.
I had man battles with the issue of Switzer.

His style may not have been best suited for this team in the long run, but that doesn't necessarily mean he couldn't coach.

As you said he got his titles and with so many using that as an indicator of whatever, he got his and there ain't nothing anyone can say about it.

This is like my 2nd day on here, but...That's so weird that someone made a thread about this - I have always felt this way when watching Troy cover games. I always felt he wanted to come off anti-Dallas to compensate for Michael Irvin's obvious, but lovable bias towards Dallas.
