Yea, I am good either way......first or last but hate being in the middle. Now, if ya have a carry-on and go last, good luck finding space for it

Dex you're probably one of those folks that drags a "small house" up the aisle with them! lol

I'm astounded what folks call "carry on" luggage.

I have some quirky connections to the Wright Brothers and their 1st flight.

Born on Dec 17: the flight was on Dec 17
Lived my early years near Dayton, OH : Wright brothers are from Dayton
Grew up on the Outer Banks of NC: The first flight was at Kitty Hawk--on the Outer Banks of NC

The plane rides themselves really did not bother me much. Although it was amazing to see some of the changes from the late 80's to the 2010+.
It seems like the seats were not as roomy in coach but could of just been my imagination. However I remember i the late 80's you got a meal whether in coach or not that came with the flight (depending on the time or length of the flight) or you would get a free drinks and some free snacks.

Last time I got one little free cup of cola. If I wanted anything above that I had to pay...not with cash mind you. You had cash you were out of luck. Had to pay with a credit or debit card. So while many around me were eating...I had to sit and wait because I only carry cash.

Beyond that...the planes never bothered me. It was always the airports that were the hassle IMO.

You either have a really long lay over between flights or you have a short layover and you oddly have to go what seems like miles in the airport to get to your next departure point in a short time.

Or you are in San Juan airport and the signs are in english and spanish until the signs just kind of disappear all together and you still did not see a sign for your next departure gate. So you keep walking until you realize the Airport is a huge Horse shoe shaped design and you had to go from the tip of the one side of the horse shoe to the tip of the other and instead of having a part in the middle directly across from each other you have to walk the whole damn horse show...again with the signs seemingly disappearing 1/3 of the way through. That was fun but thankfully a worker at the airport helped.

Also when you have a flight where you were heading home on leave (in the military) so you only carry a few dollars to get a snack and a drink only to get caught in the middle of some sever storms. All the flights get cancelled and the Airline is generous enough to give you half off of a hotel room and cab ride....which is nice but does you no good with only a few dollars in your pocket so you spend the whole night in Atlanta airport walking around or in my case jogging for an hour or so to pass the time while getting crazy looks from some of the workers or other people trapped in the airport lol.

Or landing in Anchorage airport in the middle of the night and having a lay over but none of the shops are open. So you are looking out the windows and seeing mounds of snow and wonder if you were going to be delayed. Apparently not and I guess they are better off and used to dealing with inclement weather in Anchorage airport compared to Atlanta lol.

Or getting on the tram at Dallas Fort Worth and keep missing where you need to get off for some strange reason.

Or Landing In El Paso Texas and thinking you accidentally flew into Juarez because everyone that worked in the Airport was speaking Spanish instead of English lol.

Or You buy a ticket to Charleston WEST VIRGINIA, while wearing a WVU hat and even having the agent singing Country Roads...only to get on your plane in a small Louisiana airport (can't remember which one). Landing in Atlanta...getting to your depature gate for your next flight only to see that it is for Charleston...SOUTH CAROLINA. grrrrr

Exact opposite, I check everything. I hate fighting others looking for overhead space. I bring my phone, two cans of dip and maybe an iPad :D

I dunno... Guess I'm not jaded by the whole thing. On my recent trip back & forth to the west coast we rode 3 planes out and 3 back– In economy. We were never late. The take offs & landings were decent. The flight attendants were friendly.

I'm not sure how much better it could be under the current circumstances, i.e. the threat of terrorism and the shear number of people that fly now.
Oh, I feel ya there, I was speaking of the contrast bw 1st class and coach.

I'll never understand the big 'perk' of being able to board first. So you can go and sit, where you're going to sit for the next however many hours. Plus it's usually stuffy as hell in there while parked especially in the summer.
I sit in the terminal until final call, walk on alone and sit down. Also probably because I've been at the bar until they start calling to board.ha

For me, it's all about having space to put my carry on in the overhead bin. I hate waiting for a checked bag.

This is one the airplanes I fly. It is old as dirt, but an awesome performer and built like a tank. I've never taken it over Mach .98 like this guy, though:

Customer service still sucks. Treated like cattle most times. I don't dread flying only because I accept the fact ahead of time that I'll be treated disrespectfully. It is amazing the coordination it takes to keep this country flying I agree.

A few flights ago I tried to get into an almost empty line. A TSA supervisor made me stay in the pre-TSA checked line which was huge. I looked at him then did my best sheep baaaaa which is actually pretty good. He stared at me then left.

It is pretty amazing the coordination of so many planes day in and day out. I still refuse to fly anymore though. Just not for me. Rather drive.
