Wrong- he was cleared to fully workout around December of 2003. So even if he took it easy for a few months- he STILL had most of the offseason between 2003 and 2004 to work out. THEN he had ALL of the year since then. ALL of the offseason of 2004 and 2005. BP himself said that he almost LIVED in the weight room. AND after all that he has not gotten any further then where he was before he was injured.
YOU must remember something else- he came from a college program that is KNOWN for having an excellent weight trainer. ANd he had spent 4 years there.
ADD to all that - it does not take all that long to add bulk and weight if you have experts working with you- which the boys do. AL has had all the time it would take to bulk up and get stronger- IF HE COULD.

I don't know how many of you guys lift weights seriously, but size and strength don't necessarily go together.

In fact I'm pretty sure most NFLers and the Cowboys in particular train more for power than for pure strength. There is a difference here and they are trained differently. Well I'm not going to get into it too deeply because I don't think too many people care.

Anyway Johnson is not great but he's not bad either. Yes he could run block a little better but I think you'd find LeCharles Bentley has his flaws too.

OTOH Dominic Raiola might be a free agent next season. I think he is pretty good even though Lions fans as Cowboys fans do, tend to underrate him.

Ok last time, because your thick headedness is starting to annoy -- dude likely came WAY down in weight after his surgery. Why are you finding that sooooooo hard to understand. You act like he was at 305 and hasn't been able to get bigger -- but the truth is he was likely at about 250 and did get seriously bigger from that point.

His first off-season was likely spent trying to get back to a weight where he could play at all. That's not a "healthy" off-season to me - the trainers were working with him to get his size back -- fully cleared to participate meant he was ok to work out. But still had miles to go to get back the weight he lost.

Let me make the a little easier for you. If you have 5 apples and you lose two, you now have 3 apples. If you want to get up to 7 apples, you first need to get back the 2 apples you lost before you can start increasing the number of apples you have. Does that make it more clear for you?

Let me make this clear to YOU. HOW much do you know about weight training?
Do a little research before you make yourself look worse then you already do.

probably a good bit more than you know about microfracture surgery. and certainly more than you know about making a coherent argument.

I was talking about weight training- which apparently you have no knowldege of at all.
AL was operated on in Sept of 2003, I believe. He was cleared for full workouts in december as long as he took it easy with the knees- in other words, upper body workout and strengthening first, legs later. And As I POINTED OUT- he had after last season- where he was at 290+ in weight- to work out and strengthen to his limit.
And for all intents and purpsoes- there was no progress. Can I make it any more clear for YOU? HE CANNOT GET ANY STRONGER!!! Not without bulking up to a point where he loses flexibility and agility.

how do you know he didn't get stronger this season? were you spotting him on his bench-presses? as others pointed out weight doesn't equal strength. you are making this judgement on a single off-season of workouts -- you can't count the off-season after his first year since he was working back to a playing weight.

you aren't willing to give him two full off-seasons of training then? even BP gives guys 3 years.

I see a bunch of uninformed people spouting drivel.

Al Johnson is Dallas' best offensive lineman for this season up to this point.

He's given up one sack so far this season. Pretty impressive for a 98 lb. weakling.

The problems in the running game have very little to do with Johnson. He's one of the better centers in the league moving to engage LBs and if certain people cut down on pursuit tackles some people would see how valuable his blocking is.

He's never going to be able to manhandle 3-4 nose tackles, but show me one center in the league that can.
