I agree 100%......can't imagine ANY player caring about draft rankings enough to risk his own value, especially when they have no idea who's being drafted/targeted. In other words, IMO tanking for the part is a fan/media thing. Hell, look at the Jets Sunday. My understanding, their fans are livid but players and coaches don't care. They are paid to win 16 games a season.

Messed up. As if winning 1 measly game would help any players or coaches at this point on the Jets team?

They could have landed the #1 rated QB, yet now they will lose out because the players and coaches decided to be selfish? lol

Fire them all if it ends up costing them the ability to draft who they wanted and needed.

Do you really think Lawrence is that much better than Darnold ? They just drafted him for goodness sake.

Owners care because star prospects sell jerseys and tickets. --This is why Troy Aikman was getting drafted in Dallas even though Jimmy didn't initially like him.

No one else cares because so few are around when it matters.
It took Dallas 3 years to make the playoffs after they drafted Troy Aikman. 90% of that team was turned over by then.

The Jets entire staff and front office is likely getting fired regardless. Should they tank out to show other owners how great they can lose?

You can play your young guys and you can focus on the future but you can't lay down in NFL games. A busted play here or there and you will win a game.
No one is entitled to pick 1 overall anymore than they are a Super Bowl.
Going down as one of the worst teams in NFL history is a stain few players/coaches want.

The entire culture around a team is based on giving it 100% and getting the job done to beat the guy across from you.
When you toss that out the window you need a whole new culture.
It's why team who draft top 5 seem to do so many years in a row.

:lmao:

Jet GM to Jags GM: We will give you Darnold, another player of your choice, the Jets' second pick in the draft, and the Jets' 2nd round pick, all to move up one spot in the draft.

Jags GM to Jets GM: No thanks. Click.

Many fans will pay to see Lawrence. Some fans will pay to boo Darnold. Networks don't want games with Darnold. Networks want games with Lawrence.

Maybe the Jets get lucky and OSU Fields turns out to be the better QB. In that case the Jags will have royally screwed up. But, right now Lawrence is the better QB prospect out of Lawrence, Darnold, and Fields.

Gase will never get another head coaching gig in the NFL ever. He may get some low coaching position with NE, Miami, or Buffalo as a reward for screwing the Jets’ front office. No other team will touch him because he cannot be trusted. He screwed the Jets out of potentially a couple hundred million over ten years.

Jets have no one to blame but themselves. They should have fired Gase and made sure the interim coach was onboard with the goal.

It would be hilarious if Lawrence decides to stay at Clemson for his senior year.

I wonder if the Jones’s thought sitting Zeke would make us significantly worse yesterday...

how that??!

Gase played with the same 0-13 team he brought in, what was he supposed to do punt on first down to lose on purpose. The rams should be embarrassed and maybe Mcvey fired for losing to that team..Integrity and character is what coaches and players play with that fans do not have ..you expect them to lose on purpose , RG would yank that first overall pick from the jets had they do something so obvious to lose game they had won and had the players what fall down and give the rams free TD? thats illegal in the rules the NFL set forth and lacks major integrity of the game rules..

I disagree with Breer. That management cares about draft slot.
How would it be the players playing hard and coaches coaching to win, only for the FO to want to lose for a better draft slot just to market jersey's as someone had posted.

As a worker, or a football player, knowing you CEO / Owner did not care, then why should an employee care. You want to build a winning program and it starts with attitude.

This would be like a CEO buying stock for the competitor, and not your own company.

Keep in mind, most vets don't trust rookies anyway......so again, why tank for one (lol).
why would a winless team tank the 3 games for the potential change of your franchise for the next 15-20 years? Is that a real question

I think you’re looking at this from a very narrow perspective. It’s way more selfish to order a team to lose. The jets have around 30 players set for free agency next year, they are likely to fire their entire coaching staff, and you have a ton of bottom of the roster players who need quality game film to earn a spot on 2021. These are peoples careers. Often very short careers that beyond popular belief does not set up a player or coach financially for life after a couple seasons.

Any player/coach/front office that tanks will not be respected around the league.

Maybe they like Fields better than Lawrence.:laugh:

Which leads to the question, what if Fields out duels Lawerence in the college playoffs?

Why would a bunch of players/coaches who won’t be there even care? These guys are trying to not go down as a laughingstock winless team. They are trying to have good film so they can find work in 2021. They don’t give a damn about drafting a QB.
