Jon Kitna says hello

Kitna was good and I thought he would be if he ever had to play. He had some productive seasons in Detroit and made Roy Williams look like a viable NFL receiver with over 1300 receiving yards back in 06. Not even Romo could make Williams look good. Dez had his first 100 yard game with Kitna at QB. Now watch someone try and spin that I'm saying Kitna was better than Romo.

The "Trickshot" quarterback Alex Tanney who became famous due to incredible trick shot videos on the internet got a chance to throw some balls in pre-season games for the Titams..

His stats: 14 attempts, 12 completions, 154 yards 1 touchdown and ZERO interceptions.. In 2 of his 3 preseason games, he had a 100% completion percentage.. Almost 13 yards per completion.

Shoulda kept him

I saw the one td pass, and he saw he was going to be hit, but stood there and delivered a long strike to his TE for a td.
That one play was impressive.

For those yearning for an RGIII pick up:

Ouch! Cooley didn't hold back and was a great read on his deficiencies relating to reading the field (specifics on primary/alt routes, etc.) Wish the DFW sports media provided this level of analysis tbh.

Outside of Romo, who this regime didn't find, I'm not that sure how good we are at finding QB's or picking backups. Orton is the only good backup I can even think of worth a squat.

Just to be fair, the Cowboys haven't put much into finding a backup replacement QB in the past seven years. I don't think too many teams would have much success with 5 UDFA and one 4th round pick. As far as Free agents, we did hit on two of the last three with Kitna and Orton. I don't know what the FO saw in Weeden. I suspect that they thought a new stable environment would be enough for him to turn the corner.

Dallas Cowboys QBs since 2008:

Rookie QBs
Richard Bartell UDFA
Stephen McGee (4th Rd Pick)
Rudy Carpenter UDFA
Alex Tanney UDFA
Dustin Vaugh UDFA
Jaime Showers UDFA

FA QBs
Jon Kitna FA
Kyle Orton FA
Brandon Weeden FA

Throwing trick shots doesn't mean you're an accurate thrower of the ball. It's one thing to throw it accurately in a gym into a garbage pale, likely after multiple takes and it's another to hit a WR in stride while you're off balance trying to dodge a 275 pound pass rusher and trying to throw around the arms of defenders and over the top of your 6'7"+ O-Linemen...all within 2.8 seconds.

The only thing Tanney showed me with those videos is that he had ample arm *strength* and had a pretty good throwing motion. Given that he was young, had collegiate experience and pro experience and had the size for the position...it was worth a shot. But, when it comes to being an NFL QB, he just doesn't have it (and before somebody jumps in...no, Weeden doesn't have it either and I doubt Vaughn or Showers have it either).
