The "Trickshot" quarterback Alex Tanney who became famous due to incredible trick shot videos on the internet got a chance to throw some balls in pre-season games for the Titams..

His stats: 14 attempts, 12 completions, 154 yards 1 touchdown and ZERO interceptions.. In 2 of his 3 preseason games, he had a 100% completion percentage.. Almost 13 yards per completion.

Shoulda kept him

Outside of Romo, who this regime didn't find, I'm not that sure how good we are at finding QB's or picking backups. Orton is the only good backup I can even think of worth a squat.

You should probably mention that in his TWO 100% completion games, he was 2-2 and 3-3. Lit the world on fire in those five passes.

I hope that we find former middling starters as backups from now on.

Guys who can win you a game, but also aren't dreadful. RGIII would be a good backup quarterback, honestly, in this offense. Guys like Matt Schaub, Ryan Fitzpatrick. Anybody who has started and won an NFL game and didn't play for Cleveland in the last 20 years.

I wish we would've kept him too, however, it's not like we cut him or actively got rid of him. The Browns (if my memory is correct) plucked him off of our practice squad and put him directly on their active roster. If we were to retain him, we would've had to put him on OUR active roster, which there just wasn't room for at the time.

If he somehow becomes available I really hope we scoop him up. He has more raw talent than any of our backups (by far, IMO), and he definitely has an NFL arm.

I don't know. They had Kitna and Orton,, which were good back ups. Not sure who in today's NFL that would translate to and if we ever had the chance to pick some one like up this year or last. I can't remember which QB's were on the Open Market that we missed out on that would have been better than Weeden. I don't think they have been in a hurry to draft a replacement QB yet. They might next year but for sure the following year to give him some time to sit behind Romo. But at this point, I don't think the FO is concerned with drafting a replacement and I don't know that any FA QBs would have been better than Weeden. Which FA QBs did we pass on for Weeden,, real question because I have no idea.

I think RG3 is too expensive. We paid Orton a lot and got one really good game for that, except for the Int. They then went cheap and got a guy that wants to be a backup. I want my backup QB to want Romo's job just like he did coming up.

I have no clue as well, who they passed on I mean. But when I watch PS games and see some dude named Henineke do positive things, and other 3-4th string QB's from other teams move up and down the field, and we can't even complete a pass under 5 yards we have a problem.

Tanney is playing against scrubs late in games a lot of QB's can look good in those situations.

Any on our roster??? ;)

None we have but Tanney didn't look good either against scrubs when the Cowboys had him. He's only attempted 14 passes in preseason and Tenn is the 3rd team that's giving him an opportunity in 2 years. He's bouncing around the league.

For those yearning for an RGIII pick up:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...nt-assess-the-rest-of-the-Commanders-offense/

Damn. That's some harsh stuff. RG3 has been getting destroyed in the media this last week or so. Most of it well deserved, I might add.

Just read that! That is insane. It appears that he has lived on his athletic ability throughout his HS/College career. and it took the NFL to show that he can't read a defense and has no fundamentals at all. While his cross town rival Luck is skyrocketing! Love it!!

Except ours unfortunately. Weeden would give his left nnn to have stats like that.

Certain situations in a preseason game can lead to some opportunities for a QB to look good. I've seen some QB's light it up in the 4th quarter of preseason games with scrubs/bubble players out there. Let's be honest even the Cowboys starting offense with Romo didn't look very good until a few series into last weeks game. Romo's first 3 passes in preseason were incomplete.

Yeah, I wouldn't be going gaga over the guy, but I'd still take him over what we have at QB3 right now. That doesn't mean he should be here, because I don't see us keeping 3 QB's, and I don't know if he'd hold up as 2.
