Often as fans we take certain things for granted.

The play of Terence Newman is one of them ... week after week.

Terence had 4 tackles and 1 assist on Saturday - strong game.

However, his shining accomplishment on Saturday was keeping Michael Vick's favorite target in check for the game.

Alge had 5 catches for 59 yards. Newman wasn't covering him every play, but he was covering Crumpler when it counted.

Alge Crumpler is 6'-2", 262 lbs.

Terence Newman is 5'-11", 195 lbs.

That means Terence gave up 3" and 67 lbs to Crumpler!

However, I suggest to you that T-New was the bigger man Saturday Night ... and, once again, his outstanding play was heralded with little fanfare.

Props from this fan, Mr. Newman.

Cowboys did the right thing putting a CB on him instead of a mis-match with a LB or safety as most teams seem to do.

Agreed. He's having a very good season. He just doesn't get the props because for some reason he doesn't get the INTs.

Now if only they could figure out how to cover the FB coming out of the Backfield.

It was just a result of the defense we played. In our base, Roy covered him exclusively. When we went to the nickel, Newman took over, since he plays the slot position and that's where Crumpler was lining up.

The falcon WR's played better then they had all year. Made catches and plays that they had not made all year. that is the reason the game was close.
Actually, we had pretty decent coverage most of the time. VIck and the WRs made some plays.

I agree. His WR were making some catches that I have not been seeing them make as of late.

The Dallas defense has a tendency to make star players out of nobody... It happens on a consistent basis, so to argue that this is a result of the opposing offense getting lucky as opposed to the fact that something is wrong with the Dallas defense is on the borderline of lunacy...

When I see a WR diving on a long pass and hauling it in before he hits the ground and keeps control of it that is a heck of a catch and yet these are the same guys who drop balls that hit them dead in the hands with no one around them. I agree Dallas secondary has some work to do but I have also seen Alt play enough to know that their guys were making some catches they normally drop.

True. Henry's coverage was pretty weak at times but the ones Glenn and Newman were beat on were pretty good throws.

What long passes? You have only one long pass play to the WR that was being covered by Glenn that was a very difficult catch to make... even if he missed it, Glenn clearly interfered with him...
On the other plays, the WRs got wide-open... WRs, NO MATTER HOW CRAPPY THEY ARE, are going to catch passes as long as they are that wide-open, like the TD on Henry, as well as the long pass the play before... a fullback catching a ball out of the backfield for 3 TDs is not that difficult, when the FB is wide-open.... they are in the NFL for a reason...

Crumpler catches almost everything thrown his way...

Our secondary got torched not because Atlanta was making crucial plays that are not normally made by them but because:

1. Vick had all day to throw, and he wasn't even thinking about running unless there was an absolute collapse in the pocket... even the TD to Newman was really an issue with the pass rush...

2. The WRs were getting wide-open...

There are plenty of games that clearly show that Vick and the WRs can put of good numbers... while there WR core is not their strength, it is quite obvious that the reason we got torched is because of our own play....

True, I agree that Henry had a rough night in the 1st half of the game but I hand it to the Alt WR for coming up with some big time catches that they have not been hauling in as of late. As for Vick I thought he had a great night which has to drive Alt crazy of not knowing which QB is going to show up.

Henry gave up a long ball as well. Look if you want to rag on the defense be my guest but I have seen enough of Alt games this year to know they were making catches that they have not been making over the last few weeks.

Because they are playing OUR defense... I have seen enough of our games to understand that our defense tends to make star players out of average players...

If you think this post is lunacy then you didn't watch the game. Vick hasn't been that accurate all year and his receivers have sucked all year. Yes, we have weaknesses but Atl played better than they have played this year.

As I said rag on the defense all you want, they played a poor game but that does not change the fact that many balls that Alt WR were dropping as of late they did not drop in this game and yes even in those game where they had drops even when they were getting wide open.

And Vick has had games where he has been on the money... And the WRs have had games where they were catching everything thrown their way... Michael Vick had a 3 game stretch where he was throwing for over 300 plus yards a game and at least 3 TDs, with accuracy, because the game plan of Atlanta was to try and limit Vick's running... This is exactly what they were doing with the Cowboys..

and in this game, Vick was like 16 for 23, for over 250 yards and 4 TDs... these are not that great YARDAGE numbers, but it clearly shows that we were getting killing on BIG PLAYS... THIS IS NOTHING NEW WITH REGARDS TO THE COWBOY'S DEFENSE...

Atlanta has played better this year than they have against Dallas... you people are making it seem like this was a UNIQUE game regarding Atlanta... previous games clearly revealed that Atlanta had the potential to put up good numbers even with the crappy WRs they have... If anybody is defending our breakdown in defense as a result of Atlanta they are kidding themselves... You don't get that wide open on Henry, especially on that type of route, unless it is the CBs fault... your FB does not score at least 2 TDs being that wide open unless it's the defenses fault...

No one is defending the play of the defense, we are simply stating a fact which is Alt WR were making the catches that they have been dropping. By the way Dallas also had 4 sacks in the game on Vick and 2 ints on the game 1 returned for a TD. Yes we still playd poorly on the defensive side but the defense also made some big plays especially in the second half where Dallas was able to have 17 unanswered points in other word while we were putting up point Alt was being shut down so before you throw the defense under the bus at least take that into consideration. I doubt you will

Why insist it's one or the other? It was a combination of several things.

Vick made some on the money throws.. he receivers didnt have the dropsies and our CB's on a few plays got beat like rented mules. Juggle those 3 things around on some plays and the end result of the play is different. Perfect throw but the guy dropped it. Perfect throw but the CB was there to bat it away. Poorly underthrown ball but the CB was beat so bad it didnt matter.

Whatever.. thats how it goes sometimes.

I know we need something to complain about.. if it's not allowing a team to tie or take the lead at the end, then it's about getting toasted in the middle of a game even if we shut em out in the 4th quarter
