I dunno if he has been coached to simply follow the play and not freelance...but he, at times, is running directly into traffic...

He doesn't seem to be a guy who can "create"...even last year...he did a GREAT job when the holes were there...and once he got to the second level...but he's not the kinda guy who can create when the blocking isn't great (not may RB's can)

That type of RB is a special breed.......Unfortunately none of our RBs seem to have that quality as of yet....They don't seem to be able to make someone miss.

You're right - he isn't an LT/Sanders type player. But there are plenty of good backs that aren't. if our OL worked the way it is supposed to, it wouldn't be an issue.

OH, I think he can be very effective....but I was talking about a guy who can take control of a game in crunch time...lead a team...I don't think Jones is that guy...

At times, Roy can be that guy....Newman flashes...but that drop today was the play that playmakers make in that situation...

I think I disagree. That would have been a touch catch for a WR, even more so for a CB. It would have been icing, but Newman has been a clutch playmaker for us all year, IMO. I can't ice him for one dropped INT.

I'm talking about a game breaking type player...

I'm not knocking Newman by ANY stretch....he's become a great cover guy...he lays the wood on his tackles...and he's shown some spunk on punt returns...but that INT doesn't get dropped by an impact guy.

I feel we are missing the clutch guy, who in tight spots, takes control...we don't seem to have that on the roster...maybe Roy...And I think it's one of the reasons we don't win these kinds of games.

But I'm not knocking TNew.

I think we all tend to remember and place greater significance on plays late in the game...but truth is, plays early in the game are just as critical...

In fact, for a team looking to establish itself, taking control early, could be a huge factor.

That said, what an awful start by our veteran players.

Terry Glenn dropped what would have been a 25 yard gain, 1 minute into the game.

Keyshawn dropped the next pass...or more accurately, allowed the defender to knock the ball from his grip.

Larry Allen got beat and Julius got stuffed on a run play.

And then, Bledsoe overthrew his target resulting in an INT for a TD.

Talk about your bad starts...and ALL of it from veteran players.

By the same token, GREAT play call on the first TD by Parcells with the fake WR screen to Glenn which Champ completely bit on. Everyone likes to crap on Parcells for being predictable in the red zone, but that was a terrific call.

I wasn't making a comment about the play calling.

I was noting that at the beginning of the game, the vets on offense made a bunch of bad plays....now, if those plays happened at the end of the game, we'd all freak...

But that they happened in the beginning had no less of an impact.

I feel players such as Newman, Ware, Crayton, Spears, Canty......players that could possibly be playmakers will eventually come to the fore. It's all part of a team learning how to win. When individuals become comfortable within a scheme, the league, the competition thats when they have the confidense to step up and make plays.

How many really big games in the NFL have these players, heck this team, participated in........not many. Beat a few teams like the Broncos in the National Spotlight.......you will see a few players emerge that will flat out refuse to lose. It's all a part of the process..Remember the 91 Team ( slautered by the Lions in a playoff game) that team grew up to be the 92-93 Cowboys playmakers and all..

Well really, it's no wonder our offense is wildly inconsistent. You have a QB whose on his 3rd team in 5 years. Both the #1 and #2 and #3 (as of now) WR's are on their 3rd team in 5 years. Theres reasons for that. I'm not saying they're bad players, but they're not exactly studs in their prime. We're not working with the Triplets of '93 here. Guys who were not only in their prime, but had played together for a number of years.

You got 2 Tackles of which perhaps neither one should truly be starting right now. Having to start one would be bad enough. You got LA who isnt as good as he once was. O-lines need not only skill, but continuity. Nevermind having played maybe 3 or 4 years together.. these guys are on about 3 or 4 games.
