I thought the run at 2:55 was one that stuck out for me. I thought for sure the DB was gonna blow up the play and he got to the hole fast enough to break a diving arm tackle. Some backs would have been a hair slower and brought down for a small loss.

He isn't the fastest or most elusive, but I liked the Richie Anderson comp - kinda smooth power.

Smith has a has a role as a power back. Special teams is what will get him on the roster.

He didn't offer much because they stuck with McFadden. Who didn't offer much either.

No DMC was injured. Mo simply didnt offer much.

Edit: I really liked Mo but his burst did seem to fail him as the season wore on. Really not sure which player is better for our roster now. Mo is also one dimensional.

When I see RBs like Smith do well in the preseason, I'm skeptical due to memories of RBs in the past looking terrific in the preseason and then never doing much of anything in the regular season.

He actually kinda reminds me of Murray a little bit. I think he lacks the great at-the-line vision that Murray had though, I noticed a few plays where he could have bounced it to the outside and picked up a good chunk of yards

But I think his patience though - he doesn't just hit the line, he'll stop and start again allowing for a hole to appear.

I would not mind getting him on the 53 - even if that means removing Morris

Nothing more than a 4th string RB to me. I really don't get the debate anyway??? We have Zeke now, so no reason to really even consider this guy anyway.

This could have been a debate 2 years ago when Murray left. Now? Nope.

I'm not acting like the guy is anything special but he looks like he is good at everything and if he can play special teams then I think the Cowboys get rid of Morris.

I wish we had more Zeke style runners instead of these big one cut guys.

I think Alfred Morris is a good pure runner but he's limited at everything else.

Give me Mcfadden > Morris.

I get what you are saying. But we are now at a point, offensively anyway, talent wise we don't have to worry about these type of guys. Now if a 3rd string DE/DT shines? I want to know about him! It's sort of snobbish what we have accumulated, at least on offense.

And while Morris doesn't play ST's he looked lean and mean the other night. That spin move was fantastic. He looked like a professional NFL RB IMO.

That sounds like the same logic Jerry used to justify drafting for backups in 1996.

I think teams should try to maximize talent at every spot regardless of circumstance.

I get that perspective as well, but Smith is still nothing more then a backups backup IMO.

I remember a game with that Lincoln Coleman in it( pretty sure we lost) he had a couple decent runs, and I thought he was going to be the 'mudder' in that game,so Troy kept feeding him the ball and when the defense started shutting him down,I remember #8 shaking his head as they huddled up like ,,,"nope, this guy ain't the answer",,, funny what you can recall from just seeing a name.

I don't know either. But DMC is not a fit. Mo is a better fit because he knows the zone running scheme. DMC just runs and hopes for an opening. Just my thoughts.

He looks like a poor mans Demarco Murray to me.

He catches well, blocks well, runs hard, and he probably offers something on special teams too.

Alfred Morris looked more nimble then he did last season on his limited touches but I think he's going to end up being the odd man out.

lets tap the breaks. he ran on guys who will probably be cut soon

It was that play he made on 3rd and short to get the first down - he really moved up the depth chart on that play. He fights real hard for needed yards. He shows this repeatedly - it's in his DNA. And I like the fact he is Jaylon's brother. This is a good energy to feed. I don't see the need for McFadden. Keep Morris as the #3.

Came in to hate on the Demarco comparison. But he does kinda look like him with the white gloves/heavy white wrist tape and the one cut running style. But let's stop there.

Morris is a better runner, but gotta love Smith's versatility. Someone brought up Richie Anderson is another thread and I loved that comp.

Not as heady.....yet. Not sure quite as good in the pass game yet either.

This.

He may remind some of Murray but I think they are referring to Bill Murray.

For you old-timers, he reminds me of Tommy Agee, a nice utility RB/STs guy who led with his toughness. If he does make the roster, it will be because he is a stud on STs and Morris is not.
