All Set at 1 Tech?

This thread is about DT.
Obviously if a player in the draft falls in our laps in the middle of the draft, I am ALL for it, but it seems we could be set at the 1 tech. What you guys think?

1st Choice - Tyrone Crawford - Depends on where coaching staff feels his best fit is in camp, but it seems it is going to be at the 1.

2nd Choice - Josh Brent - I think its getting more and more obvious that Josh Brent is going to make a return at the end of his sentence. The media all seems pretty convinced of it. If he is in decent shape, I think he can be an awesome 1 tech in this scheme. Depends on if he is suspended, and for how long.

3rd Choice - Terrell McClain - Upgrade from Hayden with some upside.

4th Choice - Nick Hayden - Good rotational depth. Not starting quality material, but as a 2nd or 3rd option not bad.

Crawford was a DE in College, thought to maybe be a Spencer replacement at draft, last year was a 3 technique and now the default 1 technique?

If that is option #1 and Option #2 is retired and in jail....I'd have to say that I wouldn't think "all set" and close the book

lmao everyone is giving up because they released ware, but if they didnt everyone would be mad @ jerry for keeping him

Well the savings sounded good in theory, then reality set in that this is the worst defensive line in the league. I still wish we found a way to keep Ware, but understand this is the right long term decision. The Cowboys arent done on the dline, but its clear it will by commitee in 2014.

I thought that releasing Ware was for the best, until I realized that the FO was going to the day labor lot at Home Depot to sign guys that would likely be available in mid October/November, with the money they saved from Ware's departure.

Here's a question for the board but I don't feel like starting a thread on it. Would you be in favor of trading our 1st round pick next year to get an early 2nd this year for another DL addition?

We still keep our own 2nd, this is just an extra pick. Our future 1 for a now 2. Which is the one round downgrade going rate.

Considering that could be a top 5 pick for all we know, and that a lot of these 4-3 DEs in the draft are undersized, and the 3 tech DTs are mediocre/injury concerns beyond Donald, I'd have to pass.

Who on earth would trade a top 10 pick in 2015 for a 2nd this year?

absolutely not! there isn't any player worth it in this draft. I really think that the top DL prospects, would at best, be second rounders in recent drafts that had big time DL talent.

I'm sure nobody would.

But not everyone think's it'll be a top 10 pick. I'm taking the temperature of the board. Sure it's a first for a second but this is a deep draft and you'd get the player in the pipeline a year early.

I would never do it. I was curious if others would.

I can't think of a guy in the 2nd I would love (to that degree) to get for this DL. Can you?

This team is closer to 4-12 than 12-4. There are numerous holes that one extra player wouldn't help.

There are only 2 scenarios where that would make sense
1) If you had a 24+pick and a young team on the rise
2) If you took a QB that you loved as a QBOTF and he was falling

I think we are all set at 1 tech. It isn't a spot they value much and between these guys someone will emerge... We need a DE and a 3 tech without a doubt though.. I think between Crawford and Selvie we are good at 1 DE spot and between Hayden, Mcclain, and the possibility of Brent we are set at 1 tech.

You think Dallas selects a DT or DE now.....so don't be surprised when they don't.

A Marinelli Defensive Draft picked by someone else.

If this does ends up being a Kiffen Draft look for late Drafting of DLs (and cheap FA DLs) early on Drafting Safeties... i.e. Pryor or Clinton-Dix.

Marinelli defensive drafts in Chicago and Detroit weren't exactly anything to write home about, anyway.

I'm thinking Crawford's position is up in the air, I've heard they want him at DT and not DE but perhaps he will end up playing whatever position we don't address high in the draft or FA? If they draft/sign a starting DT, he plays DE and vice versa? Not sure, just throwing it out there.

Hayden should be some nice depth for some snaps.

I hope we don't get to the point where we end up having to rely on or hope for Josh Brent when it's questionable as to why he's still on the team but I can't help but think the FO has him penciled in on that line with all of the support they've given him. I've also read that he's not likely to be suspended. We might not have a choice IF he's here, in shape and ready.

Would you trade this year 1 and next years 1 to move up and get Clowney?

I don't know about Risen, but not a chance for me. Clowney is not a once in a decade type of player, the last one was A. Luck.
