All this fuss about the long ball

I don't get all this fuss about the long ball. Personally I like our offense better when we just eat away the clock and stay efficient. Back when we had TO I felt like we tried to score on every play, and that's just not possible. Don't get me wrong I love long plays, but trying to force the long ball is dumb. It should come secondary to good play calling.

I think it's hilarious that people would complain about Jason Garrett not calling enough deep passes. Or that anyone would make such an assertion based on two preseason games.

Does everyone remember before TO was signed all the talk here about wanting a WR that could stretch the field? How the opposing defenses did not respect our passing game and crowded the LOS?

Of course a lot of things are different between now and then but it is funny to see some arguments going the other way now.

Going from Keyshawn to TO was an upgrade in speed but we already had Terry Glenn so stretching the offense really wasn't a problem.

We might see more short throws because Tony isn't trying to force anything down the field now. JG might be calling a lot of deep routes, and they just aren't there. That's the thing about not having TO anymore...Tony isn't going to try to force it deep to him.

Both the Raiders and Tennesse were running alot of cover 2 which also cut down on the chances. Romo just took what they gave him which is exactly what I want him to do.

What fuss? We all agreed that this year there should be more shorter throws and more emphasis on the running game.

The long ball is fun, but I've long said we were too dependent on it. In my opinion, Peyton didn't become a Super Bowl winner until he changed his style and was willing to dump it down and not always look for the big play down the field.

I think it's hard to win December games expecting to pick up 20 yards a pass completion, and we certainly have done nothing to make me think otherwise.

I'm not really worried at all. This offense much more closely resembles what I've been hoping we could become, so I'm not about to complaln.

I was a proponent of bringing in T.O. simply because I thought it was time to do something -- anything -- to mix up the deck. It was evident we weren't going to win a Super Bowl with Drew Bledsoe throwing to Keyshawn Johnson, not because we necessarily needed a deep threat but because we needed a playmaker.

We were a stale team then. I don't necessarily think that's the case now, especially as T.O.'s personality wore everyone down.

This is the key right here to us getting over the winter hump. We relied to much on the deep pass but that cold weather is not kind on the long ball. A good run game and dink dunk type passing is whats gonna help us succeed in Dec and beyond.

Like I said the other day, some people would gripe if they were on death row about to be executed and got a pardon from the Governor. They would gripe that it wasn't from the President.

Garrett didn't use Felix Jones in the Commanders loss last year. He is forever branded.

I am beginning to question the intelligence of fans and media of the Dallas Cowboys.

Yeah like having a top NFL QB.

We have guys who can make big plays downfield. This shouldn't even be a discussion.

Peyton did everything he could to lose in the playoffs that year.

His defense bailed him out that entire post season.

It isnt like they havent tried any deep balls or run some longer routes. They went deep to Austin early vs Oakland and Austin had a step, but Romo had to hurry the throw. Austin was wide open deep vs Tenn the other night but Kitna overthrew him. I believe Romo tried a deeper route to RW vs Tenn as well, but the ball was out of bounds and it appeared the Tenn DB was guilty of illegal contact or PI too.
