Great band...great live band...few bands I'm aware of who can sing AND play as well...some groups play really well but can't sing...others sing well but can't play...

They have balls live when the play stuff like Funk 49...Life in the Fast Lane...Victim of Love...and then they sit down and sing Take it to the Limit...Best of my Love...Hole in the World...with just acoustic guitars and 5 part harmony...And then there are songs where they combine both, Hotel Callifornia...One of these Nights...etc

Too slick for some...not for me...I've seen them live a half dozen times...perfection...Joe Walsh brought an edge that they needed...the line up of Henley/Frey/Walsh/Schmit/Felder is as good as it gets.

What I was struck by when I first heard the "H*ll Freezes Over" album was how their new stuff was every bit as good as their hits... "New York Minute", and "Get Over It" are just brilliant...

And when they went into that acoustic, flamenco-flavored rendition of "Hotel California", it was like 20 bars before I even recognized what song they were doing... now, if they could only get Joe Walsh to stop insisting on singing every once in a while (that guy's voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me)...

Yes, IMHO the Eagles are as good as rock and roll gets...

Funny...maybe being a musician I can pick stuff out easier but I knew Hotel California from note one. Over the years, they've come up with different ways of playing it; different intros....it's got a Latin feel to it...the backing chord structure is very unique...and I guess I've just become a bit of an expert at picking it out.

Buy the DVD set of the last concert. It'll blow you away. Henley didn't miss a note...didn't sing around anything...My only disappointment was that Felder wasn't with them.

Regarding Joe Walsh, whacked as his voice might be, he ALWAYS steals the show. And he's a heck of a guitarist. He'll never get the credit he deserves because he's such a clown on stage but he can really play.

There has always been criticism that they are too slick....too perfect....I've never understood that. Perhaps they should miss a few notes in the studio and then everyone will be happy.

Here's why they are too perfect. Glen Frey was talking about how they practive their vocals. He referred to it as the "Circle of Fear". Basically, what it comes down to is, they sit in a circle, facing eachother, no instruments and sing acapella.

GOOOOOD stuff.

Springsteen & E Street- 3 hours of rock-n-roll with NO intermission- and the material to do it. I feel like I still owe them some money after every show.

His previously unreleased material is enough to make someone a superstar. (See SouthSide Johnny)
