All-time Favorite Band

I had the good fortune of meeting SRV shortly before
he died. He was very approachable and friendly,i talked with him for about
an hour before his show. And a great performance of course.
Clapton and everyone else that was there the night he died said it was the best he'd ever played and stole the show.

I think I'll stick with these guys...

You people don't know what you are talking about......It's The Stones

Then there was the Benny Goodman Band, Tommy & Jimmy Dorsey Band, and of course The Glenn Miller Band.

Favorite rap group of all time.

And you can not go wrong with EWF.

However I am going to have to get you into a little rock/metal and old blues. :D
Funny, I may very well know their songs, but not who sings and performs them. I recognize alot of the names in this thread, but I prolly wouldn't know they performed a particular song unless someone mentioned it as it was playing.

The Eagles, hands down... where rock and roll goes when it grows up...

Great band...great live band...few bands I'm aware of who can sing AND play as well...some groups play really well but can't sing...others sing well but can't play...

They have balls live when the play stuff like Funk 49...Life in the Fast Lane...Victim of Love...and then they sit down and sing Take it to the Limit...Best of my Love...Hole in the World...with just acoustic guitars and 5 part harmony...And then there are songs where they combine both, Hotel Callifornia...One of these Nights...etc

Too slick for some...not for me...I've seen them live a half dozen times...perfection...Joe Walsh brought an edge that they needed...the line up of Henley/Frey/Walsh/Schmit/Felder is as good as it gets.

I believe the GRP label put out a Glenn Miller compilation...all songs redone...each note true to the original...recorded digitally....sounds like the band is playing in your living room.

Good stuff.

Pantera is definitely one of my favs also.

I would have stopped the Metallica after the Black Album also. They went downhill from there.
Amen to that. I wish Metallica would go back to "old school". I will never tire of hearing Pantera bang it out!!!

I could not begin to choose.

If you go by the number of CD's I own of a certain group it would be:

The Beatles, REM, U2, and The Eagles/Don Henley.

You almost have to break it down into categories:

Classic: Beatles, Stones

Theatrical: The Who, Queen

Reflective: Zeppelin, Floyd

Blues: SRV, Clapton, Bonnie Raitt

College years: REM, U2, The Police

Grunge: Nirvana, Pearl Jam

Country/southern Rock: Eagles, CCR, Skynyrd, Garth Brooks

Just plain great: Fleetwood Mac, Bruce Springsteen, Simon and Garfunkel, Jim Croce, Melissa Etheridge

Soul: Aretha, Marvin Gaye

Motown: well, Motown, all of it.

IMO Load and Reload were ok.....they had a couple of good songs from each but their last album sucked big time. Maybe they need to go back to being Alcoholica again :D

How can nobody mention Black Sabbath? :(

Black Sabbath and Pearl Jam for me.

I love Sabbath. Not much of a PJ fan.

Nice to see BZ mention CCR...because that would be my second choice...

It just doesn't get better than "Born On A Bayou" or "Fortunate Son" or "Green River"

And this is a home grown "band"...really it's all John Fogerty...even the CCR name is his...
