Allen Robinson, potential UFA WR

Had enough of bringing in injured or recovering from injury players.

No thanks.

And he's a pretty good receiver, but the Cowboys' problem isn't players, it's coaching for the most part.

Just don't see he'd be a significant upgrade over who we have now, some, yes, but not worth what it would take to sign him....

Well Robinson has the talent to get separation. That in itself is a upgrade over what we have now.

Robinson was abysmal in 2016. I had him on my fantasy team just horrible. Now he is coming off injury in a bounce back yr he did not do so hot in. I think if he does hit free agency that he won't cost too too much like Landry. Whose starting asking price is 13.8m
Be careful on judging a player based on fantasy. That's the last place you should look in regards to how good or bad a player is.

Well true but Raw production he struggled and Hurns has been non-existent since their dual breakout seasons in 2015.

If you were the Dallas Cowboys would you make a push to sign him away from Jacksonville if they choose not to tag him? Of course I realize he's coming off an ACL injury but with the advancements in sports medicine, that really isn't a big issue in my opinion compared to an Achilles injury. The talent is certainly there and the kid is a good route runner.

Thoughts?
i would love to have him

my answer is yes and IF I were Cleveland I would sign him also.

I think most people expect him to be tagged...but if he isn't, he is going to be expensive

not really, he said he is looking at a contract like Adams signed in GB, which isn't a cap buster to me.

Former fellow Penn Stater Allen Robinson? Heck yeah I would sign him! :)

I disagree with the term "potential UFA WR", Jacksonville is in fine cap shape, he's their best receiver, and they're not afraid to spend big money.

I feel that there is no chance that Robinson is ever available.
One of their starters from this year is also a free agent (Robinson was out all season). If both return that would give them 3 WRs that have each had multiple years with starter type stats.

Regardless of the money, one might want to go elsewhere if he is not re-signed first.

I would not want to pay full price for Robinson unless it's a 1 year deal. It might be best for him to sign a 1 year prove-it deal after the injury.

It very well might, but Jacksonville can still afford to pay him more than Dallas could. And they know better than anyone how good he is.

And they can walk away from the Allen Hurns deal to give that money to Robinson, a far more reliable receiver.

I don't see how he gets out of Jacksonville.

If we were any good at coaching up WRs, then maybe you take a stab at him on the cheap.

Him and Lee are both UFAs.

They also drafted Dede Westbrook and have some guys that flashed in Mickens who are still signed past next year on, along with Allen Hurns. Be curious to see how they approach this offseason. Blake Bortles will count 19mil against the cap, but zero of it is guaranteed. As of now, they have 16mil in cap space, not factoring in a jump iirc.
So, one of Lee or Robinson should hit the market IMO

Keelan Cole looked great last year as well. He outplayed Westbrook in several games. They are pretty deep at the WR position. They could afford to lose Allen Robinson.

Even coming off an injury, he'd instantly be the best WR we've had in 3 years.

The 12.5M saved from making Dez a June 1st cut.
So you want to cut a guy who is the Dallas Cowboys leading receiver in pretty much every category, for a guy coming off ACL repair and pay him the same? That is an amazing concept. If anyone here remembers correctly, Dez and Romo weren't on the same page until their 3rd season, after a complete offseason of working together before TC and OTA's. They worked to develop their chemistry. Dak and Dez have both already said that's the plan this offseason. But sure, lets cut him and bring in Robinson, and then when we have more trouble scoring we can look back and say, that made no sense.

He's not really a proven talent...

He had a great year in 2015, but we have seen a lot of one year wonders...

Cowboys rewarded Tyrone Crawford based on one good year, and he's done little since. Cowboys rewarded Miles Austin based on one good year, did little after. Cowboys signed Roy Williams to a huge deal based on ONE 1,000 yard season with Detroit, never had more than 38 catches in a season at Dallas.

There are others, but the point is clear - signing players based on one good year is usually disastrous for the Cowboys.

Now if Robinson is just dying to play for Dallas for a reasonable price, and is willing to wait for Dez to be cut or is willing to take Williams' spot, fine.

But with the way some teams throw money around for average players, and with several teams flush with cap money that could use a wide receiver, the above scenario ain't happening...
