how much time do we give him before wishing his ousting? whether it be Rex Ryan, Ron Rivera, *gag* Norv Turner *end gag* Mike Singletary etc.

you be the judge, c'mon, I want some serious discussion going about this

I think guys like Turner and Phillips would win pretty quick, probably even next yr...they are both experienced and have proven systems that work...both have plusses to why they'd be good hires that made sense...not sexy hires, but good hires

whoever comes should get 3-4 yrs just like Parcells got...if they can show progress or get us into the playoffs after that point, its time to move on...this is a pretty talented roster

Coaches are hired to be fired.

I just hope the new guy is someone I can get behind. I will anyway, but some will be tougher sells than others.

For my part he will get a pass the first season...win or lose. He gets little credit and little blame; little credit because the players will not be his and little blame because systems take time to implement.

UNLESS

Unless he turns out to be like Nick Saban who I saw as a bust very early on (glad we dodged that bullet). Or unless he turns out like Sean Payton who turned over half the roster and put his stamp on the team immediately.

Clearly, some folks on this board will be calling for the ouster after the first preseason blowout.

Others will steadfastly claim that any success is b/c he's doing it with "Bill's players'

Others will attribute any failure to "the mess Bill left"

Honestly though -- you hire one of those assistants (I'm not even going to consider Norv) and you've got to give the guy a pass for 2-3 years.

I think it depends who you hire and what the overhaul is like.

If it is a college coach and a complete system overahul you would have to be a little more patient.

If it was a guy like Wade Phillips I would expect very little system change and success next year.

If it was a guy like Norv, I would expect a 3-4 DC hire and success also.

Rivera and Ryan, I think we could make a quick conversion to the 4-3 as many have a lot of experience with it already and I would expect a lot from them early on too.

I think BP has left a talented team. Dumb maybe, but physically talented. I hope someone can work with that. The read on Rivera (simple system concepts) may fit the mentality of our team IMO.

As soon as theres 2 back to back seasons where no progress has been made.

Theres a whole laundry list of guys over the last number of years who have gone in and in their 1st or 2nd year got some extraordinary things done only to have it come unraveled a couple years later. BP himself for that matter.

Why not just keep hoping for lightning in a bottle like that yourself? And if he keeps it up, fine.. but if he doesnt.. see ya! It's either that or wait around for 7 or 8 years like in the case of guys like Shanahan or Holmgren or Fisher.

Apparently the latter scenario isnt too appealing though or we wouldnt be having this parade this morning.

6 new HC's this past year got thier teams to more wins than the previous year. And in 4 of those cases it was at least 4 extra victories. Only 3 new HC's got less W's than the previous year and when 2 of those are with the Raiders and Lions it's no surprise.

To me, it will come down to the direction of the team. The main reason I liked BP was I could see the direction of this team and it was on a total upswing. He was laying a foundation that will provide us fans a team to be proud of for years to come. I can't honestly say that about the Campo or Gailey era's,, the players they were bringing in were crap. I would have liked BP to stay one more year and try to lay a deeper foundation, but that is not happening. So to me, the next coach, will win with the players that are on this team,, the question for me, can he keep bringing in the talent to keep it rolling.

If you think about it, most of the players on this team are very young,, so a coach worth anything, could come in and win here for the next 7-8 years with the roster that BP built. IF we win a championship in the next 2-3 years,, we as fans, would need to say thank you to one BP, even though he couldn't get it done, he is responsible for the upside this team has right now.

Now that Parcells is gone, my biggest concern is that Jones will be primarily responisible for our draft picks again. I realize that Jones has always had input on our picks, but with an established/highly recognized coach figure like Parcells no longer here, I'm concerned about us getting more players, with the quality of... or lack thereof, of a Shante Carver and/or Kavika Pittman type of players on the team.
