Alternate option for Swing Tackle Issue

If Tyron is out, move Steele to LT and pick the best available option for RT.

Despite training camp reports, we know that Steele can play.
- He started 6 games at LT last season and was good enough.
- He started 8 at RT including 2 with La'el active for the game (i.e. Steele started over La'el).
- It seems obvious they were considering benching La'el altogether.
- After Tyron's 2nd stint of missing games, they wanted Steele focused on LT in practice.
- Without Tyron's ankle issue, I think they would have kept Steele at RT over La'el for the remaining games.

I notice in one of the camp videos that Josh Ball appeared to look a little better at RT.
- It would be easier to find a RT type of veteran to sign than a swing that can play both LT and RT.

- Just like Conner McGovern was much more comfortable playing RG,.. instead of LG.?

Yes, i agree that may actually have to be an alternate option, like it or not, if current personnel and status quo stays the same.

Unless there's an urgent, clever FA signee or late round trade for a quality vet swing tackle around roster cut time, i think its' gonna be a real mess at the OL unit this year.

Steele played LT when he played at Texas Tech and he was good, but not great. In the pro game he’s much better at RT than LT and I think the times he’s played LT bears that out.

Could he be a one game band-aid at LT? At most. If we’re talking 2-5 games, I don’t think Steele is the answer. (And I really like Terrance Steele) I still think this team better have a better plan than Steele or even Tyler Smith as a backup LT. Tyler Smith could have a future at LT but he’s not close to ready for that yet.

Bottom Line for me: We need more OL depth than what we have today. And I will be very surprised if the team doesn’t make some kind of acquisition to shore up the swing T situation. Either waiting for cuts in early Sept or via a trade. We will see very soon.

And it was a reason why Steele went flat undrafted as a rookie, despite his athleticism, size and length.

He was an utter mess technique wise and he did not have ideal base core strength.

i'd move tyler smith out there...plug in mcgovern at guard til tyron gets back.

If the plan was to move Tyler Smith to LT in a year or two anyway, then just move him out there and leave him there. Tyron getting hurt again is a good indication he is done. Even if he comes back he will just suffer another injury. For continuity, set the line up and leave it.

tyler smith will start at LG.
but i don't think he stays there for his entire career.
i think part of why they drafted him is they think he's their future left tackle.
it doesnt sound like tyron smith's knee injury will knock him out for the start of the season.
but if he were to miss time...during the season...why not give our future left tackle the opportunity.
i agree with continuity...but the trend across the league is moving players up-front when there is a need.
the patriots have been the fore-runners for awhile now.
even coach mccarthy has said not to think of these linemen in absolutes...position flex isn't a buzz word with this staff.

Put our best blocking TE habitually next the LT, or move Martin to LT.

I’m one of the few that feels Tyler Smith is an upgrade over Tyron at this point. When Tyron came back in December he was completely washed up. In the playoff game he got destroyed by a no name DE. Tyler would get beat by speed rushers but he’s a major upgrade in run blocking at this point. I’m willing to go through the growing pains cause I’m sick of Tyron and he sucks now.

Tyler Smith playing LT is what got him drafted. Seems like McCarthy wasnt gonna start him at LG anyways so... Tyler S. at LT sounds like a pretty simple solution to me.

Steele was much better at RT. We need to go get someone.

I vote we go with the best we can muster, and we use two TEs and 2 WRs a lot, which may have been the plan anyway.

Not a bad idea.

Anything but mobing Tyler out there will be ok with me.

Tyler needs to stay at LG for the next 10-12 years, imo

Sorry but, not going to happen at least in week 1 until vested vets don't get a full year's salary. We paid Dak to be like Brady so if he's not we should find out this year.

Either sign a Left tackle or move Tyler Smith out and plug McGov in at RG, pray for Dak's life

Replace Smith with Smith and just rewatch penalties the start of this season again.

Think that score card has been solved? I don't...

The offensive line and wide receivers will be lucky to keep the Cowboys in games for the first six games of this season.

Hope for returned kicks and lots of interceptions and sacks!
