I believe he needs more reps/more experience. He only played a handful of games on the college level.
I agree but Joseph always seems to get hurt or sick when he gets a chance. Let’s hope for the best but my expectations are low for him.

I worry about him mentally more than physically.

He does look like he is playing with low confidence out there. I believe he had a chance at a pick and dropped it during the Indy game.

The point is Brown is not great and he couldn't take any snaps from him after two years.
To be fair, Brown was much better last season, he really has struggled over the last month, where it was more possible replacing him.

Teams were doing the same with Brown, especially down the field over the last month. Yes, some growing pains, but I believe Joseph has a higher ceiling at the position.

Higher ceiling than who?

Then Brown.

Thats a small point that we cant possibly know now. What we do know is that at the moment Joseph is a liability where Brown was doing his job well. For this year, its a problem.

It took Brown 5 years to finally be good enough. Cant afford to wait that long with Joseph.

Brown has been struggling this season, especially over the last month. Joseph was perceived as a 1st rd talent, where Brown was more of a late day 2 player. Certainly Joseph has to prove it on the field and play up to that potential, but the upside is there. I expect Quinn to protect him some early on and there could be some growing pains, but could be an upgrade at the position. Question is, how long will it take? The team needs to find out about him and Wright, 2 former top 100 picks before they need to make a decision in the offseason as Brown is an unrestricted fa.

There is no perception at this point. Hes been playing for two years. When he comes in, he gets beat.

I agree that Brown is not the greatest. But I think you're discounting his talent. He's playing opposite Diggs, and the guy has allowed how many TDs this season?

You realize how many TDs other CBs have given up? The Cowboys play a certain kind of defense. And the only reason Diggs even gets thrown at is because Brown often has his guy covered like stink on poo.

His 4.3 is nothing to shake a stick at. I'm very concerned he's gone, from a fan standpoint. Because it reduces our chances of winning. Obviously, we have to go on without him.

That said, I would say you roll with Kelvin Joseph in the slot. Not because I think Joseph sucks, but because I think he's better suited for the slot, especially to cut his teeth in the NFL. That's a perfect spot for him. Doran Bland seems better suited to play the outside. I mean, yes, he has quick hips. But I see him as more of an outside cover guy or a free safety. I like that he has flex. And we're running thin in the secondary with Brown out. That's part of the risk we took rolling with so many TEs, and other roster spots that make our team unique, and tough to defend. I hope that doesn't end up costing us.

On a different note, I would seriously suggest that the team start gearing up for the Eagles like two days a week, start game planning for them. This Texans game should not give us any trouble simply because we outmatch them in every phase of the game. My strategy next game would be to play Micah Parsons deeper in coverage and have him mirroring Jalen, It Hurts.

Joseph has 4.3 speed too. I think in many ways he is an Anthony Brown type of CB. The Cowboys have been using Bland in the slot all along, and Joseph on the outside. I don't think Bland has the speed of Brown and Joseph.

Yall told me joseph shut down Devante Smith in college so we shouldn't have issues against Philly right?

Losing both is a big hit. If we had Lewis than we could put Bland out on the edge and we would be fine. Joseph on the outside is a disaster.
We saw Sam gain confidence and grow quickly, same with Bland and Clark now.
It used to take seasons to prime players up into starting roles, now the way this league is built, players get fast tracked and just in a few starting games you can start to see what you have or don't have.
Let's hope that KJ is a quick study as well, he needs to make a few plays to start gaining the much needed confidence and at least we have a couple very favorable matchups at this point.

Bland you could see the talent in preseason. Same with Williams. Just dont see it in Joseph and its been almost two years.

KJ was actually surprisingly good in limited snaps last year.

“In 97 coverage snaps last year, Kelvin Joseph allowed 7 receptions on 15 targets for 49 yds and 0 TDs. Had 2 PBUs and allowed a passer rating of 54.6.”

His athletic profile is high end, I’m actually excited for him to get more snaps and experience. Hoping he can gain some valuable experience down the stretch heading into the playoffs.

I'm not in disagreement, KJ makes me as nervous as a hooker in church, just need to see him in a full game under fire so we can evaluate him fairly.

It may determine our fate in the playoffs.

He was probably the only one who had success against Devonta Smith in the SEC. I think he will have some early growing pains, but he will be a solid starter.

that was a lifetime ago
Since then Smith is light years better and Bossman has regressed
In any case, I would not trust him to hold up his end this season
We need a starting caliber CB by hook or by crook

This draft is top-heavy with CB talent, which should ease your worried mind.
I’m hoping a big ole monster DT falls to the last pick for us, but they usually go early
CB, WR, G, all are late first round options
There are a few QB in this draft that could go in first that pushes down other positions

Joseph will be a shutdown corner. He'll have his side on lockdown so hard, teams will start targeting Diggs.
