Am I alone? I believe this team will go to the SB if we stay healthy

I don't know why people put themselves through this every year. lol If we have no injuries we should be able to win the division and after that....I've seen too many things happen to us over the years to go that far.

He's missed 24 out of his last 96 possible starts. Started 75% of possible games.

Eli Manning has missed 0 out of his last 96 starts. 100% attendance.

Brady 100% attendance

Rivers 100% attendance

Like it or not, Romo has a significant injury history compared to the other vet QBs around the league.

Lol cherry picking at its finest. You named 3 qbs who haven't missed any time while ignoring thr the other 28. Luck, Rodgers, Big Ben, Flacco, Cutler, Brees and many others have all missed plenty of time in the last 3 years

I haven't read all the responses but I will say that anyone who expects their team to win a Super Bowl, in today's NFL, is a little foolish regardless of circumstance.

Too many variables to have any realistic expectations. From blown referee calls to injury. I think this team will contend. I think they make the playoffs, to be honest. After that it's all a crap shoot. I never expected Denver to win the Super Bowl even though they made the playoffs. Hell, I didn't think they'd beat the Patriots at home. Manning's limitations just made the whole run improbable. Almost everyone had the Broncos pegged to get slaughtered in the Super Bowl.

I will say that when we make the playoffs (yes I said "when") that I like our chances against anyone (including Seattle, Carolina, and Green Bay).

If randy Gregory and jaylon smith turn into what we think they could be. Next year could be our year assuming we stay healthy and draft another defensive stud.

If I'm wrong then how about sharing your thoughts on why you think the defense is better than it was in 2014? We're only in OTA's and you've already come to that conclusion. You made a bold statement and refuse to explain your reasoning behind it because it's all based on what I said wishful thinking and your FANDOM. If I'm wrong then here's your chance to prove me wrong.

We're not going to know where the team or the defense is until training camp and preseason starts. It won't be until the dress rehearsal game when we play our starters for a half that we'll get a good feel for how good or bad the defense is going to be in 2016. It takes some games to gage where you are not a few OTA practices.

We have upgraded at DE this year from 2014 Lawrence/Gregory or Irving > Selvie/Mincey. Thornton>Hayden. more experienced crawford> his 2014 version. Sean Lee/McClain > 2014 mcclain/Bruce Carter. Byron Jones/Church > Church/Wilcox. Dude we are better all across the board in defense. So nobody has to be a FAN to see that this defense will most likely be better than 14. You can choose to take the negative view if you'd like. It would be par the course for you after all.

That formula would still have to include an elite performance from our pass defense. The 2009 Saints ranked 3rd in DPR.

That defense was #20 in yards that year. Because teams had to throw like crazy to try to keep up with their offense. They led the league in turnovers that year. I think that's the most realistic expectation of our defense holding their own for the team. Even the following year the Packers didn't have a shut down defense but they were real good at getting turnovers and they also won the sb with a similar strategy.

IF and that is a might big IF, key players on both sides of the ball stay healthy then we will be right in the thick of it. Super Bowl? Maybe, three or four teams in the NFC that would be in that elite group, but we would be one of them.

I get that people are concerned about the defense, but you can't look at any area of football in a vacuum. If Romo and Dez stay healthy and Zeke is who we think he is, the defense will be much better. They will have to defend fewer snaps and a longer field, opposing offenses will be forced to take more chances leading to more sacks and turnovers, and the mentality of the defense will change. If you know the playoff and the super bowl are a possibility you play harder and faster than if you know you are just playing for pride. Scandrick, Lee, DLaw, and Crawford being 100% plus a good year from Jones and either Mayowa, Irving, or Gregory becoming that 10 + sack guy and this defense will end up in the top 10.

He played a brilliant game vs Denver a few years ago with over 500 yards passing and 5 TDs but because the defense played so poorly his only mistake cost us the ball game.

You're correct that the defense has really cost Dallas over the past several years. Just a tad better defense and those 8-8 seasons become playoff seasons and who knows what happens from there.

It pissed me off so bad to hear people say that Romo cost Dallas that Denver game. As if his one error in an otherwise brilliant day was more reason for the loss than the defense letting Manning pass for a million yards. Hell, they even let Manning run for a TD!

Saying Romo cost us the game was an immediate failure on the football IQ test, as far as I'm concerned.

Conveniently.

It is weird that in 2010 and 2015 Romo had collarbone breaks. That's very unusual.

The wear and tear type injuries are usually what you worry about with age. if that's the case, he has only missed 2-3 games.

Unless someone expects another collarbone break--which given his past, I guess could miraculously happen--they would be expecting something new to happen if they think he'll miss more than 1 game.

Well tony gets hurt a lot in the JG offense lol, but people forget he has played while injured, many games.
The ribs, and hole in his lung, the broken pinky, 2 different back injurys, and other stuff.
But with the C bone, he cant play with that injured.

I doubt he breaks that again,

I remember reading the same thing 2 years ago.

Two years ago after releasing Ware during the offseason we had 6 fewer sacks than we did in 2013 despite the 2013 defense being the 3rd poorest defense statistically in league history. The only reason our sack totals weren't lower in 2014 was our defense spent an average of 12 fewer plays off the field that season than the year before which kept the D fresh. Not being so fatigued from being on the field too long helped our pass rush some and helped us force some turnovers.

With Hardy gone forever and with DLaw and Gregory suspended the first 4 games a couple of players are going to have to step up or we might not get within 3 yards of a QB the first 4 weeks. If we have a potent offense that can control the ball like we had in 2014 and Romo can stay on the field AND we have some players step up our D has a chance to be at least a little better than expected. On paper it doesn't look good we'll just have to see how it plays out.

sacks are over rated, getting pressure all the time, hurrying the qb, not allowing passing lanes,
batting down passes, hitting qb as he throws, getting strips, playing the run good.
That is what is needed each game.

Dallas should make the playoffs , it is in the playoffs, where they might struggle.

I'm not sure that sacks are over rated, but I do get where you're coming from. To me it is more like pressures, hitting the QB, batting passes, etc. are vastly underrated. Those things add up over the course of the game.

That is why I think Romo being out last year and him being back with Dez and adding Elliott is so vital to how the defense does. When the opposing offense is kept under pressure on the scoreboard and they have to constantly push, push, push to keep scoring, it really becomes easier for the defense to pressure them, IMO.

Last year, offenses could calmly go about their game plan and take few chances because they knew Dallas wasn't going to score very many points. Their whole playbook was open to them at all times and rarely were they behind on the scoreboard. Opposing coaches were like, "Don't have an open WR? No problem, just throw the ball away and let's punt. The Dallas offense will go three and out and we'll get the ball right back anyway."

However, this year, if Dallas gets up by a couple of scores, the other team's offense will know they have to convert that third down or they're going to punt the ball right back to Romo, Elliott and the rest of the Dallas offense and they just might go up by 3 scores. The QB will try to squeeze the ball into a tight spot and viola! turnover. Or the QB will hold the ball a little longer, desperately trying to find an open guy and he either gets sacked or hit because of it.

The pressure that the Dallas offense can put on the opposing offense will force them to take way, way, way more chances than they ever had to last year and that in turn, will allow the defense to hit and harass the QB infinitely more than last year when teams could just play how they wanted. Things quickly become chaotic for offenses when they know they have to score and the defense knows they have to score. Synergy between the offense and defense is a huge help.

The effect is much greater than their parts.
