It is pretty amazing to go from Reeves+Parakeet+??? to Pacman+Jenkins+Scandrick (+Ball).

I never liked Nate Jones... Never saw anything in him. To go from him to Jenkins as a 4th corner is pretty amazing. Too bad we hadn't done something like this earlier, but at least we've done it now.

If I'm so pretty, why am I available?

now we have 3, top 20 corners, a 1st round pick, and an underrated 5th round pick back there

Henry is not a top 20 CB.

I'm still shocked that we have the money in the cap for all this.

I have a fear gnawing at my balls that says we're in win now mode, and things could be dangerous in the future if we don't draft masterfully.

Either way, I'm looking forward to this season. And this edition of Madden.

I think our future is fine. Jerry is looking at 2010 being uncapped, and so as long as the first two years of the deal (this year and next) are ok then most likely we don't have to worry about anything after that. Until a new CBA is formed

I really doubt we see an uncapped year. It would be bad for the players, and once they realize that, they'll get a new CBA done. Then what?

The good news is that last time, the new CBA involved a significant hike in the salary cap. I'm sure Jerry in envisioning something similar. Especially because in these negotiations, as last time, he is one of the big dogs at the table, and will be able to push his agenda more than other owners.

Which again, would allow us to pay all these players

I don't think there's much doubt about it. I think Jerry in all his optimism thinks this is THE team, and he's going to keep it together even at the expense of the future.

I prefer the Patriots style of letting guys go and giving themselves a chance every single year rather than loading up for one shot while they perceive the "window" to be open.

I think it wouldn't be so bad if we hadn't seemingly drafted the positions that we just gave huge money to. We draft corners and RBs, then give Newman and Barber a ton of money. Meanwhile we're probably going to lose Hamlin or Canty and we don't draft any DTs or safeties or WRs. Just the way it worked out, I guess, but it sure would've been nice if we had a young S or WR being groomed for when we do lose a FA or two.

Thats because we drafted them last year

We have Brown, and Watkins learning, as well as Stanback and Possibly Hurd being grommed.

I hope those guys work out, but I was thinking of something more than a 5th rounder and a 7th rounder.

And the same on the WRs -- I wouldn't count on a project like Stanback, and IMO Hurd too limited athletically.

Word. It's not like Newman and Barber got crazy money, but given the moves we had made, I thought it set us up with flexibility to let some of these players walk when the time come. It's tough, but it's business.

Instead, we're having cake and eating it too. Which seems impossible.

Somehow this is far less comforting than I think you thought it would be. ;)

I believe our CB unit will be a strength of the club and will allow us to do many things on defense over the next few years.

One thing I would like to see this summer after coaches get comfortable with the CB unit is to make moves now, not wait until later this year or next. I think we can capitalize on our current situation to improve the team for many years.

#1 Get rid of older players that are less productive or whiny non leaders
Use 3 problems as trade bait for a #2 WR -
Greg Ellis (whines like a little girl)
Roy Williams (covers like a little girl)
Terry Glenn (greedy spoiled unproductive little girl)

#2 Sign Hamlin to extension and move him to SS.
Patrick Watkins or Henry can play FS, Henry is not better than new CBs. He will ultimately need to be moved or cut.

#3 Use additional cap space to sign Ware and a few others to long term deals.

Pacman in 06 was better than Newman I think, someone on some board posted some metrics or something that showed he was top 2 I think that season in the NFL adding up stats and how often he was beat, etc.. and I think that was his second season so he could get even better.

Im also not too sure about Henry. Hes getting up there and was never too quick to begin with. The good news is he knows this. He gives decent cushions so he wont get beat. But if teams start killing him with slants and what not, I could see him being phased out a little bit. Your not going to cut the guy when you have no idea about the talent behind him, but I could see Jenkinks earning some playing time.

This is either Henrys last year as a Cowboy or last year as a corner

pacman is not as good as newman.... period.

now i'm not hating on pacman and i'm not just offering up some sentimental retort, i'm just stating what i've observed. I lived in KY and seen titans games ever since pacman was drafted and i cna tell you from watching him he isn't better.

his rookie year he flat out struggled. he shied away from contact and looked lost and confused at times. his second year was a big improvement for him and it was clear he was developing into one of the better corners in the league, but he was NOT playing at a pro bowl level or shutting down one side of the field like newman.

what made pacman so valuable to the titans was that not only was he developing into a great corner, but he was greatly helping them in the return game and thats where he is going to help us most next year. now if he behaves himself i could possibly see him taking the starting spot from henry int he next year or two, because he just that talented but by no means is he better then newman.

Hopefully we can help Roy out more.

But for the record, Pac Man is overrated. Makes plays, and likes to tackle, but the guy gets beat. Hes not shutdown. Hes more like a DeAngelo Hall than a Newman

I havent seen him play enough to make those kind of statements, but the numbers from KC Joyner and others suggest otherwise
