Am I the only one that likes the #5 seed better than the #3?

Seattle is dangerously close to being 8-8, with a four game losing streak going into the post-season. They have lost to Arizona and San Fran in December. Are they that much better than the Giants?

Sorry, I just don't buy the home field advantage for this team right now. We just won at NY and at Atlanta. Philly and NO just smoked us at home. The home field advantage hasn't been all that kind lately. Going in as the #3 means that they would have to face the Giants (and guess what, Dallas is the only team they do not fear at this stage) and then, if we win, up to New Orleans, who will have two weeks to prepare. At least we haven't matched up against the Seahawks or Bears yet.

This team should have no confidence going into the playoffs, period. The only hope they have is to get a few victories against a few teams on the downward spiral (Lions and Seattle) and get some confidence back.

Joe you are making wayyyy tooo much sense for these guys to understand. Yes we all would have love for the Cowboys to show their muscle and run through the Eagles but they didnt. This team has been a yo yo for the whole season. Teams are able to game plan against them and Parcells has gotten outcoached for the last three weeks.

As the #3 seed, beating the Giants would not be a given ( as bad as they are playing) because you never know which team will show up for either side. The Giants that blew out the Cowboys and an Eli Manning that didnt throw any picks or a Cowboys team that moved the ball with ease and shut down an offense like Indy. Even if we win that one, then going to New Orleans to play a Sean Payton team that has had two weeks to break down your every weakness, from a safety who cant cover to using a fullback to catch red-zone passes for touchdowns to simply waiting for your young ( two rookies and a 2nd year player) receivers to get open because you know there will not be a pass rush to staying in a cover two and blitz lbs but while not letting Romo scrabble outside to buy time, this all would not be a pretty picture to think about. The Cowboys have some very elephant size weaknesses on thier team and they would truely be exploited by Peyton and Gibbs.

Joe, your logic is sound about playing two teams we have not faced and I think we match up pretty well against them. Seattle has not played well and Hassleback has been a liability for Seattle the last few weeks. Alexander is a shadow of his MVP self of last season and barely averages 3.0 yard a carry without of couple of large runs.

The Bears are still trying to find themselves and injuries ae starting to take its toll on the team. Grossman will probably be the qb, which is a good thing, and their defense has shown that you can scrore on them with a little patience. They miss Harris bigtime and their secondary is banged up. I think it would be a good game and come down to turnovers and the ability to run the ball.

I think Grossman's re-emergence has been overrated because it has come against the Lions and Bucs. Both of whom had opportunities to win the game. This should be a game the Cowboys should win.

I actually feel alot better after posting this because at least we have a chance going the #5 seed route rather than the #3 hill to the mountain top.

Did you read later in the thread where 5Stars took it back because he wanted me to return?

He should have at least held you to doing the chicken dance or something. At least that would be one positive out of an otherwise wretched Christmas Day (I had to spend it with the football hating Mother-in-law, what a double whammy!)

Didn't he tell you not to post until the Super Bowl was over?

Either way, your guys played hard, ours didn't. We were all full of ourselves. Every time, EVERY TIME this board goes up on a high, it cmes crashing down.

Exactly, I'm so sick of people trying to find a silver lining in this loss. There is none, so stop looking. We just suck right now.

Maybe this loss will be a wake-up call . . .

I personally fear the Eagles, Giants and Saints more than the Seahawks and Bears. Seattle has been free-falling this month, so maybe the odds are better facing them than trying the Eagles or Giants again.

I'm with you on this one. Dallas is in trouble no matter who thay play (based on recent weeks), but I like those matchups better too.

This loss is all part of Parcells' grand scheme. He wanted to scout Garcia in person and play vanilla all game to see what the Eagles O had with Garcia at the helm.

On O, he played it close to the vest using the cover of the Eagles suspect run-D and used the game to scout new blitz packages and coverage schemes.

Parcells knew this team was already in the playoffs and playing a struggling 'Hawks team is just the game to get the 'Boys ready for a deep run, esp. given the team plays much better on the road.

Brilliant!

I'd rather play on the road against the Div. winner. We stink at home against anybody. We're a much better road team...

I can only imagine that Cowboys fans that live in Seattle and have playoff tickets are happier with the 5th seed than the 3rd.

For the rest of us, it sucks.

Going to Seattle is about like playing an 8-8 scrub. Especially since those two 8-8 scrubs would likely have been Philadelphia or New York who both trounced us.

Playing in Texas Stadium is not an advantage for us. Not even close.

IMO, home field doesn't make as much of a difference than confidence does.

That game shot our confidence. If we beat the Eagles, the confidence is back.

Dallas is proving itself a scrub, the Seahawks could well be an 8-8 division winner so Dallas is at least matched against the worst opponent they could possibly face in the opening round...not that they'll win at this rate anyhow.

I'm bummed by the heartless performances but apparently not having home field is no big deal since this team refuses to take advantage of it anyhow.

The Saints game should have been our wake up call. This was the eye opener, as in my eyes were opened to the fact that we suck.

If it were anyone OTHER than Bill Parcells, the thought would have crossed my mind yesterday, in the midst of that sad execution and uninspired game planning, that SOMEONE preferred facing the SeaHawks in the first round.

But even the most accomplished grassy knollers couldn't attribute that pitiful response to the Eagles to intention. That degree of pathetictude can only be spontaneous.

And I thought the Giants on Sunday looked as bad as a football team could....
pathetictude? I guess there's something to be said for trauma being major agent of creativity.;)

Let me restate what you just said:

Home playoff game against a tough divisional opponent
or
Road playoff game against an 8-8 team who has lost 4 straight.

To answer the original poster, yes, I like the #5 seed better. Yesterday, I put up a poll to that effect. It came out about even for both sides in the vote.

This team has shown me that home field means nothing to them. They are 5-3 on the road and 4-3 at home.
