Am I the only one underwhelmed by our draft?

Going into minicamp I realize that I am just not as excited as I have been in previous years about our rookies.

Sorry, but I just wanted to know if I'm alone here.

Skyler Green is about the only pick I really like and he's probably nothing more than STer.
Carpenter was a good pick but I don't know about the first round price.

I just feel like we passed on opportunities to really bolster the O-Line and Offense.

I feel good about the draft, but nobody can honestly know how good those picks are until a few years are under their belts.

it's hard to be satisfied with any draft after the one we had last year, so I kind of feel your pain, but what draft before last year was there to be excited about? '02 seemed like a great draft, and that's the only one that really got me excited, yes, getting Newman and stealing Witten in the 3rd in '03 was cause for excitement, but that was about it for me, oh, and Bradie was a solid pick too

i'm really happy with this draft.

i think carpenter and fasano start immdeiately and make the D and O better.

i think green is the return man we needed and will contribute from day 1.

watkins could be something at FS, but he should definitely be a ST standout from day 1

and i think montavious will be rotating in with ferguson from day 1.

so that makes 5 players contributing this year and addressing specific needs.

I see where Quick is coming from, from a catalyctic perspective, our draft was pretty underwhelming, that's what happens when you get solid players, didn't have too much to say about the last 2, after all, they're 7th round choices

With our first two picks we've got "solid role players". We won't see much from our 3rd rounder. I'm excited to see Skyler play and I'm also anxious to see how Watkins turns out, but again, those guys won't bee seeing all that much action right at first. So, yeah, I'm feeling you on the "underwhelmed" sentiment. I will be excited to see some of this newfangled 2 TE passing threat we've got planned, but I don't imagine to see that unleashed until regular season (perhaps some in week 3 of preseason).

Oh, and it goes without saying that I've got my popcorn in the microwave for TO.

Depends on how you define the term. I'm just saying you're not going to be seeing any Lawrence Taylor comparisons like Ware last year.

true, but I see a guy capable of double-digit sacks, and a couple forced fumbles a year, maybe not his rookie year, but still

Carpenter would have gone somewhere in the next few picks in the first if Dallas hadn't grabbed him.

I don't know why people think he is a reach in 1.

thats the way it is. Stealing and getting great sleepers does not happen very often. And when you pick no higher then 18 you are usually not going to get the real big stars anyway. And honestly this years draft really did not thrill me anyway as a whole. There really were not many can't miss guys and none of them really would have made me feel great if we got one. It appears we have solid guys with virtually every pick and thats usually the best you can ask for.

Most of the Draft Grades weren't glowing. You can take some comfort there I suppose. (Not said as a jab at you, just as validation.)

Just because a player will be picked at a certain range, doesn't necessarily make him worth that range, if you get what I'm saying.

Carpenter looks to be a good player... I just don't think you need to spend a 1st round pick to get a good SOLB.

It's true that the entire draft this year was "underwhelming" from a talent perpspective, as a whole.

Agreed. We got impact players for the offense, defense and special teams.

I'm happy.

Didn't you hear? We could have had Kellen Clemens in round 2. ;)

I totally believe that you have to draft for talent and not need unless that need is critical and glaring. The Cowboys FA moves elimiinated all glaring needs except SOLB.

Dallas is accumulating talent according to a blueprint that will fit the needs as defined by the coaches. I couldn't be happier with the way the owner, coaching staff, and scouting department have worked together the past couple of years for Dallas. This is like the glory days of Schramm, Landry, and Brandt.

One might ask what draft pick is going to catch the injury bug first. Each year the Cowboys have drafted a solid player who ends up injury prone.

ala, J.Jone, Kevin Burnett, Jason Brieault. Jacob Rogers, Al Johnson

So who will it be this year?

Don't get me wrong...The Cowboys have seem to have got lucky with injured players to.. Chris Canty!

Better to be lucky than good sometimes...

I am far more pleased with this draft now than I was on draft day. It just took some time to understand the plan with the Fasano and Hatcher choices.

And from where it stands now, I think it is worlds better on paper at this point than our second draft under Parcells where we took Rogers, Peterman, Bruce Thornton, Sean Ryan and so on.
