I think you have a point to make. It is true that the Cowboys OL appears to be the weakest link on this team. Now I know we have some young guys on the OL but most of them are on their "last chance" and have been nothing but problems since day 1... so with no track record for the current prospects and no STUD players developed in 8 or 9 years it begs the question... is there something wrong?
At the same time, though, it has also been, what, 17 or 18 years since the Cowboys drafted a STUD QB?
Julius Jones has had some big games, but it has been 15 years or more since the Cowboys drafted a reliable STUD at RB.
It has also been a very long time since the Cowboys drafted a STUD WR.
Unless people want to count Ellis as a STUD or believe that Canty/Spears have already distinguished themselves as elite -- Leon Lett would be the most recent STUD DL drafted by the Cowboys.
The Jacob Rogers whiff hurt mightily, of course. And last year's decision to count on Rogers to fill the RT spot was an obvious mistake. Maybe Peterman will turn out to be a whiff too. That'll also hurt.
Johnson and Gurode haven't been STUD players, but they haven't been complete whiffs - and are still young enough to develop into better players.
While I'm encouraged by recent reports on Petitte's offseason, I don't have bunch of faith in him, but I do have some hope.
Let's hope Cowboys scouting on Kosier was good. I don't count Rivera against the Cowboys scouting. The bad back was bad luck.
It is also worth mentioning, as a minor point, that part of the problem with the Cowboys' OL draft has been that the Cowboys have narrowly missed drafting players who they've wanted to draft. Shawn Andrews and Daryn Colledge serve as examples. I don't think these misses were due to bad scouting. Just some bad luck.
