The Cowboys announced they would cut him if they could not work out a trade for him. Why would teams make a serious offer for him if they knew he would be available for nothing anyway? And picking him up as a free agent would allow them to re-sign him to a more agreeable contract. The point is the Cowboys did not have to trade him or cut Collins. If they received an offer that they did not like they could just say no to the deal. Like I said, how likely is it that a WR as good as Cooper would be available in the 5th round?

And if anyone is wondering, the Cowboys are not getting a comp pick for Collins either. They literally got nothing for him.

But if he were THAT valuable, a team that really wanted him would try to obtain him, which is what Cleveland did. They wanted him rather than risk him going to free agency. But the only value the Cowboys could get for him is a fifth rounder. Simply put, no other team wanted Cooper that much to offer anything higher than a fifth.

If they found him that valuable, they would have traded for him. Only one team wanted him or esteemed his value high enough to trade for him and not risk him getting to free agency - the Cleveland Browns.

The difference is both are arguably the top two WR’s in football. Coops hold up was his money too

waddle will have better numbers than hill this year. You heard it here first!!!!

If Cooper was worth more than a 5th rounder, then the Cowboys would have gotten more than a 5th rounder or another team would have given more than a 5th rounder, right?
Exactly. The Cowboys did not give him away. Look at all the teams that are looking for and signing WRs in FA and there is still such a need that 6-7 are possible first round draft choices. Any team in the NFL could have offered a 4th and had him instantly, but no one did, or do fans actually think our FO said, no thanks, we have another offer of a fifth.

Adams is the #1 receiver in the NFL and teams didn’t mind paying him a monster contract.
Hill is maybe the only guy in the NFL who can take a 5 yard pass at any time and score a TD in a blink of the eye, so teams weren’t happy to pay a monster contract. I’m sure a few teams valued Cooper’s route running, but they didn’t want to take on his contract. The Browns got him for a fifth because other teams wanted Dallas to pay part of his contract.

I think there were other teams that wanted him, but they were either willing to pay even less or Dallas didn't want them as trade partners because of directly competing against them.

Cooper had a pretty piss poor season. Had he put up double digit TD's and had about 1200 receiving yards we would have had a much better haul regardless of contract.

Was the "pretty piss poor season" Cooper's fault?

According to some here (not myself, to be clear) he was being thrown to by a pretty piss poor quarterback. How's the supposed to have a great year in that case?

If the above isn't true (it isn't, but that subject's been beat to death, no need to reply to that here) then what else was it?
Well let's see, the top receiver this year was Cooper Kupp. Looking at stats, Cooper had 104 targets. Kupp? 191. Eighty three percent more.

Cooper had a ypc of 12.7. Kupp 13.4. Only about 5% better.

With another, say, 50 targets, at his catch rate of 65%, that's 32 more catches and over 400 more yards. Plus about another 3 tds. That incidentally would be just about the same as........Tyreek Hill.

Cleveland's not the greatest place for receivers, but it will be interesting to see what Cooper does on a team that may use him as their prime receiver and who gets lots more passes thrown his way....

Tyreek Hill netted a 2022 1st, a 2022 2nd a 2022 4th-round pick, and additional picks in 2023

Davonte Adams netted a 2022 first and a 2022 2nd

Amari Cooper netted a 2022 5th and 2023 6th, plus Dallas traded back a 2022 6th.

Not saying Cooper is at Adam's and Hill's level, but......man.

Now compare our cap space.

Close the thread.

Totally different! We were taking much less to get out of that bad contract. The Packers and Chiefs were shopping stars so they didn't have to pay them. Dallas could get similar deals if they do that with Parson in a couple years.

When you go into the season with $21m in CAP deficit, you can't sneak a fast ball past any GM.....they know you're going to cut players. Coop's 2021 figures would kind of indicate he was in the running to get cut......why trade when its obvious he's favorite to be cut. The only reason we got a 5th is that the Browns realised that on the open market Coop wouldnt have chosen them (actually we did the right thing and tried to instigate a pre-cut auction).

Some fans on here would do well to view situations from opposing teams perspectives (and acknowledge the issues surrounding poor CAP management).

If we signed Cooper to a 20 million a year deal after the season he had and the known foot problems...people would have freaked.

Yet other teams were supposed to do exactly that AND pony up premium draft capital for the privilege.

Opening their mouths incessantly doesn't help, but I doubt that was much of a factor over the other items on Coopers resume.

As far as Collins, it's easy to forget that he is one more dumb move away from a one year suspension.

Other teams do not. I wouldn't have counted on him and glad we didn't.

Is he better than Steele? Definitely, but at some point the lazy, apathetic, overpaid, entitled Garrett crew has to be shown the damn door.

Will that fix anything? Doubtful....but at least it's a step in the right direction in that regard.

I would take Tyreek Hill and Cedric Wilson over Michael Gallup and CeeDee Lamb. Tyreek Hill is clearly the best of the bunch and Cedrick Wilson may be just as good as Gallup if not better. Who even knows where Michael Gallup will be coming off an ACL. He’s had injury issues and he and CeeDee have had issues with drops.
