Everyone watched that SF game and knew this team was going to shift money into being more robust up front.
Amari trade freed up 16M this year, AND 22 mil each of the next two
He is a good player but would have been a luxury they simply couldn't afford.

Dallas has to pay Micah, Trevon, CeeDee and Steele.

Going to be more change this upcoming off-season.
Schultz to the highest bidder!

Nevermind that Jerry spent a month courting OBJ who is 2 years older
than Cooper, has a bum knee, twice repaired and wants a big contract.

Cooper lit up TB last year. 13 catches 137 yards 2 tds.
If you must compare his numbers to Lamb solely as individuals,
then Lamb must match, or better, those numbers on Monday night.

Lamb this year produced more than any year Cooper has in his career so what is your point?
Cooper had 1,160 yards with 78 receptions for 9 TDs. Lamb had 107 receptions for 1,359 yards and 9 TDs

Cooper played better.

I said Lamb produced more. You can argue Cooper played better but that is not what I was referring nor necessarily agree with.

because that was what matters except to idiots.
Now how much Dak had to do with Cooper leaving we probably will never know. But then Cooper was not someone to say yes masta no masta and that in the en probably meant he was going to go no matter what. He did not worship at the altar of Jethro and that doomed him in the end

So you are saying the OP is an idiot? This thread is about Dak and not WR2.

Except you take into account the full body of work of a players season. Coopers year with the Browns is very similar to his 2019 season with us. So CeeDee Lamb produced more yards, but he also had less yards per catch and the same amount of TDs....on more catches.

Lamb right now is not looking better than Cooper - so when contract talks come up, we should remember we shipped Cooper off for the money he was making and adjust accordingly during negotiations.

Hmm maybe that we could have had both instead of noahbrownjalentolbertjameswashingtongimpygallup?

Again another almost deliberately stupid take.
Amari never said a peep until Dallas didn't extend him post 2020.
He and everyone with a pulse knew he was getting traded or released after 2021.
So he took care of his body by skipping practices and making other business decisions.
It wasn't terrible of him tbh but it certainly helped make him a scapegoat when he looked awful and useless against San Fran unable to get lined up quickly at the end of the game because he was gassed.
Umm #4 failing to line up quickly was a bigger problem. An all time blunder

We picked the wrong guy. Cooper is light years ahead of Gallup. But there was a lot going on behind the scenes with Cooper. Still dumb to let that decide he would be traded for nothing.

And why not have both? Signing Gallup long term was dumb. He is a generic WR you can find on any time and in any draft. Cooper is not. We didn't need to pick between one or the other.

Jerry courting OBJ is common sense. They wanted a proven playoff performer at a good cost.

They ended up paying exactly zero.

Jerry would have loved Amari for 10M a year.

Gallup had 2000 receiving yards in 2019 and 2020 with 11 TDs as a WR2. Amari had 2300 yards receiving and 13 TDs as WR1 over the same 2 season period.
Pretending one was trash while the other was gold would be very wrong.

And to be clear, Amari Cooper was NOT coming back PERIOD. NOT AT ALL.
He was going to be released.
That decision was made the day Dallas matched WFT's 5-year 100M deal.
It was sealed in blood the day CeeDee fell all the way to pick 16(??).

The 2022 decision was between Gallup and Cedrick Wilson.
Dallas had the budget for and was paying for a WR2 to CeeDee Lamb.
They trusted Gallup and liked his long-term value more.
That has hurt them in 2022.

Dallas got a discount on Gallup because he had a torn ACL at the time he signed the deal.
It's hardly shocking he was super mediocre this year.
Whether or not Dallas comes out ahead will depend on how it goes with him moving forward.
He was a top 5 deep ball WR with Dak in 2019 and 2020. That was going well in 2021 when he was injured.
This year there has been zero chance of him getting deep or making a play as his longest reception is 27 yards.
So this gamble could absolutely fail miserably.
Or he could put up the same or better numbers next year than Cooper does.
Gallup made 4.5M this year and his deal is only for 11.5 AAV.
If he is bad next year they can dump him for 2 years and 24.5M total.

Amari Cooper has averaged 64 yards receiving and .5 TDs per playoff game.
Michael Gallup has averaged 68.5 yards receiving and .5 TDs per playoff game.

Amari Cooper would make this team better. But he is probably not making it 16M better.
In a game against Tampa that went OT this year he was targeted 12 times (tied for his seaosn high in targets) and had 7 receptions for 92 yards with 0 TDs.
It was a decent but inefficient game.

You can't snap the ball til all 11 guys are lined up. Cooper was the last guy onsides by about 3 seconds.
Its all there on tape and it truly ticked Jerry off.

We absolutely need Dak to show better football IQ and leadership in those situations as well but he wasn't loafing which is a cardinal sin in that situation.

It has nothing to do with WR2. The OP was obviously taking a shot at Dak by showing Cooper produced with the Browns. I think Cooper is a really good WR and would expect him to produce with any QB which he PROVED in Dallas. If the OP actually knows his history then this post would not have been created. 2020 Cooper 1100+ yards with 4 different QBs when Dak got hurt. 2019 Cooper had 1100+ yards with Dak as his QB. Cooper's best season with the Raiders was 1100+ yards. And now with the Browns he had 1100+ yards. Seeing a pattern here?
Season by season, Cooper has been very consistent. It strange that he has had some inconsistencies from game to game

tyron smith will be the next big cap number to be released this upcoming off-season. unless they sign him to a more cap friendly contract.

Stephen Jones was on Sirius NFL Pat Kirwan show the other day and they brought up Amari cooper and Stephen literally caught himself as he said “…when we gave…er traded away Amari”. Not kidding. Yes we did “give” him away.

I dont know but Gallup who we did pay has not been good this season. He has a good catch here and there, but we need more consistency. He still has time to show his worth in the playoffs so lets hope for the best.

It takes longer than a year to fully recover from that type of injury. He flashed in the Tampa game and finally started looking a little like his old self.
