The more I see of him, the more and more I'm loving. I know a lot here are on the "We need speeeeeed!" train, but this draft doesn't look to have a clear cut speedster in the early rounds. Right now, Amba is projected around the third, BUT there is absolutely no way this guy is going after the second. I just can't see it. I have a feeling after the senior bowl and combine, he'll shoot up to late first.

If he's there, I understand we have defensive needs, he'd need to be our guy. Great hands, you can put the ball anywhere near him and he'll get one or two hands on it and it'll most likely be a catch so he doesn't need complete separation. He's in the Bryant and Jeffrey mold as a WR. I love his fight for extra yards.

lol I don't think he's that fast. I just wasn't impressed. It's all good

There's hardly any speedsters in this draft. If you want that, look to FA or late round. The top prospects aren't fast.

If all you look for in the draft is speed, you end up like an Al Davis football team. Speedsters who can't catch and can't run routes. This guy has a catch radius you only see from Dez, Jeffrey, and Green.

A guy compared to them doesn't impress you? Well, okay.

John Ross or Davis/Mack Hollins are the only wr I'm PERSONALLY interested in. Good thread though

Stacey Coley out of Miami is a speedster and deep threat. Cannon out of Baylor is a speedy deep threat as well.

Etta-Towu isn't an NFL player. He's not nearly athletic enough.

Plus, he's old. He graduated in 2011 so he's probably 23.

He's old? LOL 23 is not old.

Not athletic enough? He's projected to run a 4.5 at 6'2, you know....like Dez. Also, he's been invited to the senior bowl. So, apparently, many out there do believe he has something to show for the NFL.

Speed threats are overrated

Sincerely,

Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin (4.7's in the 40 at combine)

Seriously however. Yes getting a speed threat would be nice, but production comes before all else. You can run a very effective offense with two WR's with a 40 north of 4.5.

As for receivers, its definitely an early round consideration. Depending on what happens in FA, it may even wind up our #2 need after DE. Ill also say, taking a very premature look at the prospects, WR could easily be our pick in the first considering there will likely be aa run on DE's in the mid first. If I had to bet money right now, I would bet in our first rounder either being a WR or CB

I haven't got to check out any of the CBs in this draft, any good ones this year?

That's not NFL fast and he's not a jump-ball receiver like Dez.

23 is old when you're in college playing against 19 year olds. That's a huge advantage.

And yet, he's making incredible catches like Dez did in college....

And there are plenty of WRs who run a 4.5. Not every WR runs a 4.3 or even mid 4.4. I'm not entirely sure where you guys come up with this kind of stuff. The biggest knock on him is he still needs to improve his route running, but that can be worked on.

He needs more lower body strength and his footwork isn't very good. The good thing about players in the Briles type system that they use at Syracuse is that WR get to run a ton of route and a lot of basic routes, so they get quality experience at the position. They are also required to do a lot of blocking.

Personally though, I would prefer a fast WR that can really stretch the defense on the other side. I'm sure Garrett would want something like that, but want a player that can block and run a few more routes on the route tree and that's going to be impossible to find because those guys go quickly in a draft. So my thinking is that I'm sure they would like somebody to stretch the defense deep, but they are probably looking for that player in the later rounds or a UDFA that is very raw.

No he doesn't. He makes some contested catches, sure, but lots of guys in college do that.

He'll never be able to get separation because he isn't explosive enough.
