God forbid anybody compared him to...say...Kelvin Martin or a player that wasn't white. I know it's hard, since it's almost like an automatic thing to compare someone to another that "looks" like them. But you just see this all the time. It's not offensive, just something that most people (including sportswriters) do.

Its like quarterbacks... Black ones get compared to Doug Williams, Michael Vick or Warren Moon.. When was the last time a Black QB was compared to Marino, Elway, or Aikman. And vice versa..

Exactly. It kind of makes you take these comparisons with a grain of salt.

this is different though. black qb's actually do play different than their white counterparts. most the time they are compared to other running qb's, which happen to be black.

Hardly. The history of the NFL is full of white QB's that "scrambled" (that's what they called it before this whole "running quarterback" thing got invented to describe guys like Michael Vick), the fact that there have been so few successful black QB's and yet they can only be compared to each other has to say something.

Or perhaps he's compared to him because he hails from the same school, he's nearly the same size and build, his game is very similar, and the two are friends. Amendola has been picking Welker's brain for a few years now, and has said he has studied countless hours of Welker's gametape to model his game after.

Just a guess, but maybe that is why people compare the two.

He looks pretty good if you ask me. Great hands and very fast once he gets his hips turned up field.

Same thing applies to his PR skills..very, very good once he squares his shoulders and hips.

Also has good vision downfield as to where the pursuit is..he bobs and weaves right thru the coverage teams very well.

I think he's got a shot.

We'll see.

the white scramblers also happen to be good at throwing the ball. when i say running qb, i mean a qb that needs to run or he sucks. aka, most black qb's.

Wes Welker has succeeded on the NFL level because he found an offensive scheme that matched his abilities. In fact, the NE scheme for Welker was almost identical to how he was used at TTU. A lot of people never give thought to the fact that even a very talented player needs to be used in the right way to find success. In the NFL, scheme=talent in terms of maximizing output from players.

Amendola most likely needs a similar system to NE's spread offense, and whether or not he'll find it with Dallas is debateable. We'll have to see.
