There's no questioning Pac's return ability. If his role at the CB spot increases, then his role at punt returner decreases. Why chance injury.

Danny can be a backup returner and WR. Any way to squeeze him on the roster only adds to solving some of our WR depth problem. If were're only keeping 5 WRs on the roster, then there's no need for this discussion.

Similarly you could ask why use Crayton as a punt returner? He has a big role as a WR. Why chance injury with him?

I like the kid but face it he is an UDFA who has not done anything as of yet. He is clearly not worthy of making the 53 man roster, why would you bend over backward to give him a roster spot other than he seems like a nice guy? I think he may have a shot at the practice squad but other than that he is not ready for this level of play not by a long shot.

OK Doomsday, if it turns out your right, he's probably not going to make it to the practice squad.

I think we as fans have a disadvantage at evaluating players due to limited viewing opportunities.

The red highlighted area in your thread is an unfair accessment. Our viewing and his limited playing time is not for us to draw that conclusion.

We got 2 more games, let's see if he is givien his chance and if so, what he can do with it.

True, but our options were limited. I love Newmans ability back there fielding punts but no way.

Pacman should be the punt returner. There is nothing that changes a game like ST TD's and game changers. This should take priority over his time at CB IMO because Jenkins should be able to cover the gap if need be.

If he was just an average returner and a great CB that was not going to break any big plays then maybe I would worry about him getting injured but that is just not the case.

Because according to Jimmy Johnson, the game has three phases--offense, defense, and special teams. And you want your best players out there in all three phases.

Here's why I'm skeptical of Amendola: The NFL is a copycat league. Everyone pays attention to whatever unusual thing helps one of the better teams. Wes Welker was a sensation for New England... maybe slightly overrated, but extremely valuable.

Amendola comes along, looking pretty similar, in many ways, yet he is undrafted. That seems to suggest teams saw significant flaws. I can't imagine that he was overlooked.

Of course, the NFL makes errors, and Amendola might turn out to be the real deal. But he was available in the draft in a year in which he ought to have had his very best chance of being taken. Someone ought to have seen a Welker clone if there was one there. But every team passed.

NFL teams get in trouble for looking too much at measurables, but there is a reason. The exceptions tend to have rare ability in some particular area: Welker's quickness, Zach Thomas' instincts, etcetera... I'm not sure Amendola has rare ability in any one particular area.

I agree we don't get to see these kids at practice like the coaches do and what we see in pre-season is limited to a few snaps unfortunately many players just don't make it based on those few oppertunities. I like the kid and I hope the best for him but honestly I don't see him making the 53 man roster I don't think he is one of the top 5 WR on this team. As for a return man he is not any where close to some others who will make this team. As you said though he will get at least 1 more maybe 2 more chances depending on him getting past the 1st rds of cuts that will be coming up after the Houston game

Not if Jerry's telling it straight about only carrying 5 WRs... Austin won't be put on IR or PUP, he'll just be inactive the first week or two, until he's ready to return to action...

No way the Armadillo cracks the top 5 of Owens, Crayton, Hurd, Austin and Stanback... I figure it's the practice squad for him...

Don't think he can be put on PUP list. That is done for players at the beginnning of TC. After TC starts, it's IR or released.

Adam Jones is not on the team yet, and may not be for four regular season games. Until Goodell removes the suspension he is all "potential."
