I can't believe this hasn't gotten more notice ..

On NBC Ch. 5 in Dallas, on 10 p.m. news the first night of rookie/FA workouts here, was a story on Amendola, featuring Roger Staubach. This was the day that Amendola impressed so much ...

Turns out Roger was QB was in some kind of competitive 4-on-4 touch/flag tourney a week or maybe two before the draft, and Danny was participating ...

(I hope I heard right, and it wasn't a golf tourney!)

Anyway Roger was so impressed with Amendola that for the first time ever, even when he was on the team, that he ever he went to management to tout a player, that this FA/player "must be signed" ... (I guess he wasn't so impressed with Drew Pearson ....?:))

So Roger called up either Jerry or Stephen a few weeks ago, pushing us to sign Amendola .. it must have worked!

How much is Roger's recommendation worth? Pretty much you would think ..

It was amazing to me .... Here was the usually silent, unassuming Roger, gushing about Amendola on camera. Maybe he's onto something ...

I'm a Tech Grad and as much as I like the Staubach connection and hope Amendola can become our "Welker," I fear that those expectations may be too high.

Oh.

This should be a special thread after he is cut.

I wanted us to get him last year, after watching him annihilate several Big XII teams: A&M, Okla St, and Tx to name a few. But he stayed in school...

I'm with you. Everybody loves the Phil McConkeys of the league, and as an undrafted free agent, what the hell. But let's not for a second think he's anything but a long shot to make the team, much less that he's the next Wes Welker. The fact that's he's probably too small to be much of an impact on special teams, and that the team looks to have ample kick returners, suggests that he'll have to absolutely tear it up in preseason to be worth a roster spot. Don't get me wrong, I'm pulling for him, but I don't expect him to make the team.

apparently the weight of roger's recommendation is not as heavy as erik warden or whatever the name of our 6th round pick is.

And yet "management" didnt draft the kid?

If Roger had that much "clout" we would have drafted him to ensure we got him.

Unfortunately, it's our only real hope for a new WR right now.
If Glenn returns, do you think we still need a new WR?

Just adding a WR to be adding a new isn't going to help our team any. That is why we didn't draft one. We need a #1 and the draft didn't have one and outside of A. Boldin, R. Williams or C. Johnson I'm not sure where you are going to get that player from.

Kinda scary that it was Staubach a week before the draft and not the Cowboys' scouts finding this kid, especially because they're in Big 12 country and it's been kind of impossible to miss Danny this year.

What you mean having an UDFA come in and catch 111 balls is too high of expectations???

Are they selling the Amendola jersey yet? He is the second best receiver on the team.:

I understand the comment about a new WR. I think we do need new blood. At the very least it may lite a fire under Crayton's bottom. And while I like Hurd I don't see him becoming a HOF player either. I look forward to the day we develop our own WR rather than importing one.

Are we pathetic or what?.Having so much hope over a UDFA is never a good sign.JJ better have a plan for next season to get a top WR here-I dont care if even if he has draft one in the 1st round(GASP).
