Would you guys be okay with America the Beautiful occasionally being sung before games instead of the Star Spangled Banner? It's a great song that honors our country just as well as our official anthem. Some people even want it to replace the SSB. I'm not for replacing the SSB, but America the Beautiful also gives me chills when it's sung well. It's almost like our alternate national anthem.

Yea or nay? Sing America the Beautiful before a few games every year?

Btw, here are a couple renditions of it, one by Mariah Carey and the other by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, both excellent versions IMO.

I've seen events where they did both, but I would not support skipping the National Anthem in favor of something else.

I agree. I am a true blue son of a WWII veteran and love my country, but I think singing the national anthem before every sporting event is kind of silly.

Not sure if it's done at all baseball games, but at the Dbacks games they do the National Anthem before the game, plus during the 7th inning stretch they do God Bless America before Take Me Out to the Ballgame ...I go get my last beer.

I've always liked "Stars and Stripes Forever" better than either of those two songs. Sousa rocks!

My favorite rendition of America the Beautiful- I could listen to David Phelps sing anything tho.

Wow is all I can say. Ignorants like you have no idea how lucky you have it to live in this country. No idea.

Let's first start off by saying this, you know nothing about me personally. So you have no idea what I've done for this country. Let's then look at the word I used, redundant: repeating something else and therefore unnecessary.

You want to know a way for something to lose it's meaning? Repeating it over and over and over and over. It's not just the NFL, it's every damn sport. This very thread tells you people tune out when it's going on. You know, they could use that time before a game when you have people at the stadium or watching on TV to raise awareness of an issue happening locally in the city/state that the event is happening in.

I don't sit there with my fist rolled up and screaming at the TV every time it happens. But since I'm a viewer, it's a criticism and one I feel is valid. They could use that time to do something I feel is far more entertaining or even more productive.

Wow. You just don't get it. Have you ever served? How old are you about?

The Star Spangled Banner is just too violent. All those bombs bursting and rockets red glaring. We need a song that represents peace, harmony, and love of mankind. Not some bellicose ditty that promotes the industrial military complex.

Oh yeah? Like what? Assuming the start of the game is a fixed constant, what should they do at the stadium during the 5 minute period before a game starts that would be more entertaining or more productive? Play some Justin Bieber?

maybe . . . maybe not . . .
Well, unfortunately, there are idiots who believe what you said (and are serious).

Our National Anthem is rather tame compared to some others. France's has a line about "watering our fields with an impure blood" or something like that.

I immigrated here when I was 3 years old. I appreciate the National Anthem before sporting events! No place is perfect, but I love the USA.
