America would dominate soccer if we didn't hate it.

Now obviously America hate soccer, is opposed to it, mocks it, ridicules it...etc.

But imagina a alternative universe where Americans didn't hate soccer and didn't laugh and ridicule it....I bet without a doubt that we'd domiante soccer. I mean common, how manly 300lb soccer player are there? None, while in the NFL they are common. Imagine Larry Allen who can bench press 500lb, he'd domiante soccer no doubt.

lol, you probably would dominate soccer because of the size of your population but not because you breed fat guys.

The 300 lb guys are probably a poor example, but there are plenty of great athletes in the NFL that would be just athletically superior to most soccer players. Had they grown up loving soccer and developed those skills they could be very formidable on the pitch. Deion Sanders speed would be matched by few other soccer players. How about 6'-5" Vince Young running around in a soccer game? How would Demarcus Ware look with a soccer ball?

Most athletes on the best soccer teams in the world don't match up that well with the guys in the NFL as far as pure athlete. Look at the guys that play running back, wide receiver, linebacker and defensive back and compare them to guys in the premier soccer leagues. The combination of size and speed on a lot of these guys is incredible. It is something that most of the best soccer players do not have. It is very rare for a soccer star to have good size and really good speed.

Soccer players at an elite level are every bit as athletic as football players. There aren't a lot of 6'5 soccer players because every player on the field has to be able to run fast. There are some, just like in football, but it isn't the norm. Thinking that football players are better athletes simply because they play football is just silly. They may have more muscle mass, but that's simply because it isn't needed in a sport like soccer. Size isn't nearly as important for soccer players. In some cases, it's a detriment. However, that doesn't mean they aren't tremendous athletes. I'd compare the lateral agility, quickness, and acceleration of elite soccer players to elite football players all day. I've seen both, first hand.

Freakish athletes occur in many sports. Football, Soccer, Rugby, Hockey, etc....but if there is one sport that has more than its fair share, I'd have to say its professional Basketball...and I hate basketball.

if america can pour money into developing technical skill with the ball, USA would probably dominate with the size of the population and the amount of money that can be spent on training athletes

IMO, there are far too many diverse cultures within our borders to consider population an advantage in this type of situation. Each culture has its own interests, and few of them here consider soccer a way of life. Other countries dominate because it is a part of their culture, and it's embraced moreso than the NFL is in the US. Throwing money at it wouldn't do a thing. Ask China.

umm who won the gold in the most recent olympics?

by 7 points, i would hardly call that domination and since the 2000 Olympics you've won how many golds in the word championships and Olympics?

you'd be silly to think winning 1 gold in the last 7 years equals domination

That is a tad misleading since they have only been two olympics and two world championships in those seven years.

a 25% success rate is hardly dominating, I'm not going to argue who's the best nation in basketball it's the U.S but they haven't really dominated the sport since the mid 90s.

IF we had a full time national team we would. But all star teams hastily put together with clashing ego's, etc is NOT the way to dominate the sport now that so many good players come from elsewhere.

No, we wouldn't. You are aware that players from Brazil's, England's, France's, and Germany's 'National Teams' have obligations to other clubs....just like the players on our National Team, don't you?

he never lets the facts get in the way of an argument, so do you think he cares that other teams' players have club team commitments too?
